2025 QB class looks weak

Teams draft when 'available' and still that QB can turn out to be a bust. Then you waste 2-3 years and now its an extreme 'need'. And the beat goes on.

I don’t think this is really true.  I think the unfortunate reality is that most teams are so short sighted that they aren’t making “luxury” picks on potentially improving their QB position until it becomes a desperate need or the previous regime was fired and the new regime wants to get their guy.  Atlanta was widely criticized for taking Penix when they just had acquired Cousins, despite Cousins having a long history of being accused of being a midlevel QB.  The Vikings, I think look pretty professional for targeting a group of QBs and ensuring that they ended up getting one of the ones they wanted, but they did wait until after they got rid of Cousins to try and solve that problem.  But looking at the teams around us in the draft, several teams that don’t have a solid option at QB ignored that need despite having a QB available at their pick or within a reasonable trade up.  The Giants and Raiders look particularly negligent to me, and will look worse if JJM starts to look good for us, while they reach to draft an underperformer in 2025.

I do agree that the draft is an inexact science at best, that’s why you have to draft a high volume of quality QB prospects, OL, and skill position players, because your chance for winning a SB doesn’t really start until you can get a quality QB prospect to turn into a quality NFL QB.  You aren’t wasting years because you picked the wrong guy, you waste years by not getting the right guy and by hoping that the guy you have who’s never proven to be the right guy turns into the right guy.

Sanders #1 is just so out there for me. I dont see it. I think Ewers will be the first pick when it is all said and done.

Wasn't Ewers recently benched? I'm not even sure he'll be a 1st rounder. I see the concern surrounding Sanders. He's probably boom or bust. Cam Ward could also be the 1st QB taken. Couple others I've been reading about who could factor into the 1st round are Drew Allar from Penn State and Jalen Milroe from Alabama.

I think Ewers time as a starter is on life support...For me he's been a huge disappointment this year, as has the kid out of Georgia.

Outside of Sanders, there is nobody on that list I would give-up the farm for. They all have some significant issues still. Hell, I would rather have the 17 year old receiver phenom of out Bama vs some of the QB names getting bantered about for 25.

Ewers might not even be a 2nd round pick when the college season is done. His stock is nosediving. Smallish guy with average arm strength who looked overwhelmed and skittish against Georgia, and was benched. Only reason Manning hasn't been named the starter is Sark doesn't want to do what he needs to do with Ewers: sit him. He's a good kid.

This class isn't quite as weak as the 2022 draft where Kenny Pickett was the only QB drafted in the first round & teams that drafted QBs in the first 3 rounds of that draft have already moved on from them, but it's not far behind.

This is a QB class that's going to be about development. No doubt that they'll be 2 or more QBs drafted in the first round, but none of the QBs in this class project to be Day #1 starters. All will need some degree of seasoning.

Completely. If Darnold can continue to at least play decently the rest of the year, he'll be in a good spot via free agency this offseason.

Vikings tried to move up two years ago. It isn't certain who they wanted, but they did try and were turned down. They wanted to give the QB a year under Cousins, but it didn't work out.

I also don't think taking a high volume of QBs is a workable strategy. None of them are going to get the attention they need. And how do you know if you have a good one? I don't think these things are always obvious right away. I think of Kurt Warner who was in a couple of camps before doing his thing. Would we even know the name Brock Purdy if Jimmy. G doesn't get hurt?

Also, most 1st round QBs bust. After the 1st round, it's a dart throw. Pretty hard to justify taking yet another longshot QB over quality position players elsewhere.

I would bet the farm they were going after Richardson, and as you say let him curate for a year behind KC.

I think they were very fortunate to land one of the QB's this last draft.
