It would be something if 2 guys taken with throw-in picks became rookie contributors.
That's a very good catch!

If someone want to do the math at all positions taken in the later rounds im sure you will find similar statistical data, but apply logic, if you need a kicker, why not draft the best one availabe instead of hoping you can convince one that your town is in his best interest? Also why wait and pick through the left overs when you can take the cream of the crop vs a flyer on a some other position that you will likely just try and stash on your practice squad?

Nope, just a safe bet. Can probably count on 1 hand the number of kicker/punter jerseys ive seen at games not worn by kickers punters or their families.

Bottom line is he went 4/4 (one from 57) and put up 14 points.
Draft whoever, whenever, Buy whatever jersey you want - If the kid is clutch, can put up points and win games, let him tally.

The logic says that teams can't locate the best kicker available, because the drafted and undrafted kickers hit at the same rate. This isn't true of all positions. You're saying the team *can* locate the best kicker available because Vikings drafting outperforms the norm. I'd say based on the last few years we are seriously underperforming the norms.
I'm happy they appear to have gotten lucky with Reichard. It's very Vikings that your best draft pick would be a kicker (even going back to Daniel Carlson who idiot Zim cut) and your db selections all suck and wash out for years on end.

Do you want the 30th DB off the board, or do you want to take a shot on the first kicker to come off the board? who is more likely to hit? Yes there is always a chance of a drafted kicker failing and UFA kicker making a team, but if you are doing the picking ( or anybody putting some effort into this thing ) would you really rather go to the kiddy pond for a player that will certainly be needed on the roster ( starting kicker ) vs a flyer on a player that may, in most instances, be a practice squad guy? I am taking the Kicker, if there is a guy in college that looks like he can play on sundays, and I only have 1 roster spot for that position, I want to have the first choice and not be hittin up the rummage sales.

Going back to Fred Cox (inventor of Nerf football!), yes the kicker is often the highest scoring player on any NFL team.
Take a look at the top four of all time:
NAME PTS
1 A. Vinatieri
2,673
2 M. Andersen
2,544
3 G. Anderson
2,434
4 J. Hanson
2,150
