Not only in football but in any career, where one works has a big impact on success. There are plenty of pro athletes that unfortunately get drafted by the wrong team. You can make the argument that Sam Darnold was one of those. Unfortunately, if Drake Maye starts game 1, he may fall into that category.

Silliness. We aren't even in June yet. This article is better than most, its trying to level set Patriot Nation. Expect to see similar stories about most of the rookie QBs, including JJM. The coaches are patient, the organization is patient, its only the fans that have crazy expectations in part thanks to the media fanning the flames. Conversely, you'll see the stories saying they are amazing. These are OTAs where nothing happens. You want to push these young QBs to make mistakes in a controlled setting like this and learn. Having said that, Maye probably has more to learn than any of the first round QBs.

Odds say not all of these 6 guys picked in the first 12 picks will succeed. Some are going to progress faster than others. Some are going to start out faster than others. Where they are in 2-3 years is what matters. I've been probably too hard on Bryce Young, he deserves this season to show improvement. But my skepticism comes mostly from how small he is, both in stature and size. I said it before he threw one pass in any OTA.

We're a few years from knowing how these guys will turn out, but what happens if Maye ends up busting? Unless the Vikings are World Series of Poker-level bluffers, he is the QB they wanted most. 

Last year there were rumors the Vikings were trying hard to trade up for a QB. Early rumors said it was about Bryce Young...until he started throwing passes...then it was about Anthony Richardson. The truth is hard to know. But sometimes its better to be lucky than good.

While I'll agree that context matters so to speak, i.e. that where a guy lands has some impact, the fact is that every crappy player isn't just an unrecognized champion waiting for the right coach to make him a hero. This is fan fiction designed to soothe the pain of obvious failures and the harsh reality of trying to cut it in the NFL. It's the hardest mountain to climb and a lot of guys wash out leaving only the excuses and storytelling behind.

Especially at the QB spot in the NFL. Its arguably the most important position in all of sports and only 32 guys get to start. That's rarified air. So many intangibles going into being a true franchise QB. The error factor on selection is going to be big.
