You can avoid the paywall to read this one article by connecting with Facebook, Gmail, etc. Do it.

If this doesn't get you completely excited about JJ McCarthy, hand in your Viking's fan card. Wowzer.

This kid seems to have all the intangibles - passion, leadership, positivity, resilience and leadership. Think it will be a little like Teddy when he first got here of the type of guy others are just drawn to, very likable and helps to make everyone else better. I really like Kirk, but sometimes wanted to see a little more fire from him, which is something that is going to be refreshing to see with him as he is undoubtably going to bring serious energy to the team.

Then contrast those with this... I honestly don't get this article... Parts of it maybe, but the rest seems like a child throwing a tantrum? Seems weird to me...

Yep, it's weird. it is very much like a tantrum. Conor Orr is a NYC sportswriter, loves to be douchey.

Interesting and encouraging. Knowing this, I'm surprised Kwesi was patient and didn't jump the gun to move up further in the draft to get him.

As a Tar Heel fan I hope Maye has a successful career, he's a good kid and has lots of talent, but I'm glad we got JJM.

As someone who watched Maye a lot are you saying you preferred McCarthy over Maye or just that you are happy with the selection?

That Connor Orr article is what's wrong with sports media. Getting angry about something that they don't even know could have happened. By all accounts the Vikings were trying to move up, but it sure sounded like the Patriots weren't willing to move off Maye, neither was Washington, and no way Chicago was trading out of #1 lol

Then the teams at 4,5,6, and 7 all benefited from QBs pushing blue chip talent down to them. Atlanta took Penix, Bears wanted Odunze. Who were the Vikings supposed to trade with? It worked out great, we got one of the QBs KOC loved and we only had to make a minor move up to secure him.

Just a dumb take by Mr. Orr.

I prefer McCarthy over Maye. Drake is just so young that anything can happen. Maye may become the best QB in the NFL or he may be the next Mitchell Trubiski. I think McCarthy, with his maturity and selflessness, is a much better fit for the Vikings and the culture they're trying to build.

I am really happy with the JJ pick, but was definitely all in on Maye, however over the past two days, the more I have seen of both of them, I can definitely see how you would feel that way.  Appreciate the insight from someone who saw a lot of him.
