What if: Penix at #11, Powers-Johnson at #23?

TSN just mock'd them taking Penix @ 11 and getting DT Newton @ 23. I think most here would take that and run.

All depends on Penix MEDICALS.

Can we stay at #11 & draft QB5? I don't trust Chicago at #9. They only have 4 picks in this draft. It makes too much sense for them to trade back with a team that's looking to jump us to draft their own QB. Denver, LV, Seattle & LAR are all in striking distance of #9.
If we like Penix or Nix, we might have to trade up with Tennessee (#7) or Atl. (#8).

Good point...Is it crazy to think a team might have to move up into top 10 for a QB5 or 6???? Some will say yes, some no.

As far as Chicago goes, it'll most likely depend on how the board falls...They see a good OT or WR there? Something to support Caleb? They may not want to move off it.

As of today, I am not anticipating a lot of pre-draft movement. The first 15 picks should be realtime fireworks though.

So many questions…
Why trade two 2nd rounders so we can have two 1st rounders just so we can draft two 2nd rounders in the 1st round? Why take a center in the 1st round at all? Ever? Take one in the 4th. Why pay Bradbury a $5M bonus if you were just going to replace him in the draft? Why ignore all that DL talent in the late 1st round in order to bolster a top half offensive line when Flores’s front three is practically begging for talent?
I agree with you, but think Powers Johnson could also play left guard as well as center, which is still an unsettled position for us currently. Just put your best 5 lineman out there. If Bradbury is still one of those guys, so be it, but we know he's a liability in half the games he plays. If we draft a rookie quarterback who has to play earlier rather than later, having some semblance of an interior offensive line that can protect him would be helpful..
The Vikings were reportedly very close to signing Christian Wilkins until the Raiders upped their offer. They clearly want and need some help on the DL. What's more, while Bradbury and Brandel can be upgraded, the rookie QB will be much better served with veterans there than rookies. It's just the more prudent move.

Also, everybody and his brother wanted John Michael Schmitz last year. He graded out as the worst center in the NFL last year. I don't think you want your rookie QB to suffer through that. Before Bradbury fell off a cliff when Cousins went down, he was grading as a top 10 center. It's not a given the JPJ would even start over Bradbury. I think it's unlikely actually.

Meanwhile our 5Ts are currently Jerry Tillery and Jonathan Bullard. I draft IOL on day three and use that second 1st on a DT...Murphy, Newton, Fiske. It's not just that DT is where the value is, it's the bigger need.
I think we could land Zak Zinter out of Michigan in the later rounds because of his leg injury against OSU. It was a broken leg, but is now walking and said at the pro day that he will be ready for pro training camps. Prior to the injury, most scouting services had him ranked in the top 3 IOL's.

If we're picking QB at 23 I don't know that I have a preference between Penix, Nix, or Pratt. I also don't know if there's a DT worth the 11 pick. I might try to trade back a little and see if I could reclaim a 3rd rounder.

I don’t think we will get the QB we want staying put at 11 especially now that the Jets at 10 are also looking at trading back. We have to move up. Not sure how high but if we stay at 11 we will most definitely “settle” if we want a QB

flip them a pick next year (4th) to trade spots with us this year so that somebody cant jump directly ahead of us?  might be cheaper than what we would have to give up to move ahead of whoever they would trade with,  assuming somebody doesnt still leap frog us with Chicago or other like TN.

I sense a little bit of position defending going on with Simms.

Plus his take on Kellen Mond still sticks with me. Not a fan, but posted as another viewpoint.

JT Osullivan basically said the same about Maye,  his random missed throws are crazy bad and stem from lazy footwork.

According to @PFF_Brad, here's a couple buying or selling 2024 NFL draft rumors as they pertain to the QB position

Michigan QB J.J. McCarthy will be a top-5 pick: BUY

"The McCarthy buzz is real, and we expect him to be a top-five pick come draft night. It’s now just a question of how early he goes and which team he ends up with."

LSU QB Jayden Daniels will be the No. 2 overall pick: SELL

"We think Maye is becoming this year’s overthought quarterback prospect, akin to C.J. Stroud last year, S2 test notwithstanding, and will end up as the No. 2 overall pick when all is said and done."
