What if: Penix at #11, Powers-Johnson at #23?

Would this be so bad?

This was my suggestion in the Penix thread. I could get on board with that. Powers Johnson is the best interior lineman in the draft, and if want a center that can actually anchor at 328 pounds...he's the guy

2 very good OTs in O'Neill and Darrisaw, an anchor center in Powers-Johnson and Penix having a surprising Pro Day workout as far as athleticism. I don't know, I think I'm close to getting in line to sign up for this.

you can take Penix or Nix at 11,  and then IOL at 23 and you wont hear any bitching from me. ( ok,  probably wont hear any bitching...well theres a chance I wont bitch ) B)

I'd be OK with that as well, especially if it doesn't include next year's 1st, and I'd love to keep the pick at #23. But part of me thinks the hell with it. If there's a QB in this draft that KOC absolutely loves, do whatever you have to do to get the pick even if it includes this year's #23 and next year's 1st.

And again, how many people would rather go this route then blowing our collective draft loads the next two years to move up this year to take a swing on a quarterback in the top 3? To me, I'd feel much better with a Penix/Powers Johnson combo while ALSO keeping our first round pick next season.

My preference would be Nix, who I think could be the best of the QBs, but I would be okay with either and that could b e a solid way to go.  I think in a more usual QB draft class season that both Nix and Penix would be much more hyped.

Agree here.  I posted something about this pairing at 11 and 23 on another thread, with the thinking that it would reunite Oregon's QB and C in Minnesota...they already have a two-year working relationship.  The only problem I have with this is that Bradbury, while not an All-Pro, did improve and it is not a position of need as nearly as DL, and there are two stud DL's that are probably available at 23.

As a fan I really cant answer that.

I wish I knew where their ledges were in their QB Eval's and how steep they were

I still think they covet JJM/Maye the most. How much more than Penix or Nix? Who the heck knows.

Either way, I hope we stand pat and keep both #1's. Take whoever falls to 11 and then the best lineman at 23 - offense or defense.
