2024 QB Watch
I'm getting the vibe that some teams are bagging on Maye on purpose to see if he'll drop. I mean, I don't think Minnesota has even made direct eye contact with Maye, lol.....the ol' 'we aren't interested at all yet we're going to draft him'.

I suspect that is the case with several prospects, JJM, Penix, and Nix would be slobbered over in most drafts and  the later 2 barely get talked about except at the Combine.  I think there are more teams looking to grab a QB if one is there in the teens and 20s than are being tied to the position, purely based on the strength of the group this year ans knowing next year doesn't look to be near as deep.

It's not just teams though. Chris Simms has him below everyone and he's not the only one questioning whether he's worth a top 2 pick. I think the concern is real for several people, but that concern would have to be a consensus belief among teams in order for him to really drop, and I doubt that's the case.

When I watched him I was underwhelmed, but I also think he has the highest floor among the top 6 QBs.

I was underwhelmed months ago. I tried to understand the hype. But he's a big talented kid. We'll see, but I think he's still a top 3-5 pick. Marvin Harrison Jr. is a force of nature, some team is going to be ecstatic getting him.

I have this feeling that Penix is rated higher on most GM Draft boards than most fans realize. JMO.

I agree on this, maybe a more athletic Brock Purdy?

Bo Nix, QB, Oregon — 6-2, 217, Senior
Statistics can be used to prove just about anything, but two numbers that will catch the attention of NFL teams will be Nix's 60 career starts at Oregon and Auburn and his jaw-dropping 152 career touchdowns (113 passing, 38 rushing and one receiving). As the league increasingly shifts toward dual-threat quarterbacks, one cannot help but be intrigued by Nix's combination of mobility, short-to-intermediate passing precision and diagnostic skills.

I’ve gotten to the point that if they move on from Cousins, I’d draft Bo Nix and expect him to start. He’ll face growing pains, but he’s the most prepared for what is expected of them in the NFL.

He’s really the only one who ran an offense in the manner an NFL QB does. I understand it is difficult to figure out the Ducks offense and how it translates, but if you look at the pre and post snap responsibilities for Nix, he’s far and away the furthest along. He’s essentially been a pro level QB playing college ball. He’s shown himself to be very good at reading defenses and adapting his progressions to what he is seeing. He’s also really good at fooling defenders with his eyes. The other big ability in his tool box is he’s a great athlete. He’ll be able to use that at the next level as he learns. His ability to make plays on the move when things fall apart is almost as good as Caleb. It doesn’t happen as much because his speed getting the ball out, but when plays break down he can be lethal.

As for the age of a Nix or Penix, the belief that these guys are somehow “maxed out” is ridiculous. They will get better just like you expect younger guys to do the same. Nix needs to work on his dogged determination for accuracy. It looked like as the season went on, he was cognizant of that record. I’d like to see more risk, as well as putting some more heat on some throws. He’s got the arm, but doesn’t always use it like he should.

Penix needs to work on - not alot. He’ll need to get used to the different expectations and responsibilities that he will have at the next level. The biggest question though, by far, is the injury history. He could stand to bulk up a bit. Either way, he can start day one.

I’d stay where they are and take one of these guys. If they can give a guy more time, add JJ to the list. He has a long long way to go, but the tools are there.

I’d like to say trade down, but I don’t think that will be possible. I see 6 potential franchise QB’s here and it’s risky moving down. There are teams right behind the Vikings who will want to leap frog. I expect the Broncos will be heavily focused on Nix and Penix. Both guys are what dingus looks for in a QB.

Lastly, Drake Maye. Like Simms, he is down on my lost as well. His footwork needs so much work. Missing the easy throws is a killer in the NFL and he does it too much. He also needs to show he can throw right. He’s working with Nix and they have the same trainer. Hopefully he makes strides in his weak areas, because he has some real talent to work with.

Wow,

Thats quite a different take.

I think I'm one of the few here that would be delighted getting Nix at 11.
Simms also had Kellen Mond as his top rated QB in 2021, so take it as you will
He had Mond 4th.

His list:

1. Zach Wilson
2. Trevor Lawrence
3. Mac Jones
4. Mond
5. Fields
6. Lance

I'd be fine with Nix @ 11. I would be more comfortable taking him than Penix.

Agreed, Bronco's most likely grab a QB.

Probably not the draft to try and pull off some cute trade-downs and hope for a good outcome.
