You think Olde Jim wants to help the Vikings out much?

You think he has something against the Vikings for the way they handled his interview? Could be I guess.

But I do think JJ is going top 10. And I do think the Cards won't trade out if the MHJ is there. And I do think the Chargers will want to trade down. And I do think the Vikings want to trade up. But wow, now that I think about it, that little interview snub (assuming Harbaugh even views it that way) could make the Chargers take lesser offers from the Broncos or Raiders.
I don't think McCarthy is going Top 10. I know, right now, its liar's season and that's the current rumor. I don't believe it. I think he's going to be right there when Minnesota selects at #11 unless the Vikings move up for their guy (if it isn't JJM). I don't even know if they CAN move up without it being stupid compensation.

I think he goes as high as 2 overall. I've been wrong, before but time will tell. I do not think he'll fall out of the top 10. Though I hope he does since I want the Vikings to take him.
If he falls past the 10th pick in a QB needy draft, the Vikings may do well to think twice about taking him there!
Unless he totally flubs the draft process all together, if we don't take him at 11, I bet the two teams picking directly behind us would. That's the tough thing also because those two teams (Broncos/Raiders) could easily jump us if they wanted McCarthy bad enough.

The thing is who knows if Minnesota likes him enough? That's the other thing nobody is talking about. QB is a strange position: if you get the 4th rated WRer, hey that's not bad. You get the 4th rated QB on your board, then it becomes is he worth the #11 spot? Do we like him enough to even take? What round is that grade? How many other players do you have rated higher than him that you SHOULD draft instead?

You don't want another Christian Ponder mistake.
Of course the obvious answer is "we don't." But there was an early report that the Vikings were "doing a lot of work" on McCarthy. Yes, I'm sure they're doing a lot of work on everyone. But when you consider that JJM's Cousins-like traits seem to be a good fit for the offense, it's not hard to make the leap.

There was a writer the other day who said he spoke to one NFC team who had McCarthy QB2. Bullshit? I don't know, but if it's true, it would not surprise me at all if it's the Vikings.

Again, we really don't know shit. Everything right now is opinion, making 'a leap', etc. Maybe they love JJM...I know I do. My point is maybe the Vikings love Maye. Hell, maybe they love Nix. If you accept that this is 'Liar's Season' then you can't put any credence into what anyone is saying because a particular writer might even be telling the truth when he says he 'spoke to a NFC team' but they are lying to him to get someone to drop.

The Draft is still 2 months away, lol.....we are going to wear ourselves out by end of March!  :p  But such is the interest and intensity when you are the fan of a team that will most probably take a QB high in the Draft. There's just something about that position that keeps the fires burning.

I think he's this year's Will Levis - the guy who gets hyped as high as the top 3 then lands about where he ought to land based on his ability.  Although the caveat is, I have only seen two games of McCarthy and haven't really done an eval on him yet.  Maybe I'll change my tune down the road  :o B)

At this rate? End of Feb lol!

I can honestly say I am looking forward to FA "almost" as much this year as the draft...As me again next mos if I feel the same way if KC and DH walk... :p

Except that Levis's drop was almost certainly due to character issues.

He didnt look like first round draft material to me prior to the draft, and his rookie year hasn't changed my opinion.

Character is more subjective.  I actually liked his fiery demeanor and wasn't really hearing anything meaningful about character.  None of us have access to real info in that regard anyway (twitter noise doesn't count), so we can only judge by what we see on the field.

I’ll go a step further than Merrill Hoge after my review of Caleb Williams. Not only do I think he “isn’t special”, I think there’s a better than average chance he’ll bust. He’s going to have to work his tail off to be a viable NFL QB.

Why? His decision making is too slow. He will struggle in structure because of it and in the NFL you have to be able to play within structure to succeed. The ball has to be out on time, accurate, and anticipatory. There is very little sign of any of this in his game tape. The things he does to make uo for these deficiencies - run all over the place, is unlikely to work for long before defensive coordinators force him to beat them from the pocket. That will necessitate much faster processing than he has shown thus far.

His arm talent is exceptional so there is something to work with. As a prospect he isn’t terrible, but taking him in the top 10 is crazy risky. Can he get it together? Possibly, but it’s probably dependent on where he goes.

My current QB rankings:

1. Jayden Daniels
2. Bo Nix
3. JJM
4. Drake Maye
5. Michael Penix
6. Caleb Williams
Which of these QB's is the fastest processer of the bunch? What stands out to me as a special trait for an NFL QB in addition to all else is rapid processing of the defense after the ball is snapped. Knows what he's looking for. Bang bang bang, one read to the next and getting the ball out when he sees it. That is what CJ Stroud has in addition to his other attributes.
Sometimes when a college QB is lauded for his ability to make plays off script it is because he can't process fast enough to deliver the ball on schedule.
Just wondering what your opinion is since you already see this with Williams?

Fastest processor in my opinion is Bo Nix and it’s not close. I’ve evaluated QB’s for fun for the past 20 years and I struggle to find anyone to compare him to at the college level. Aaron Rodgers in his NFL prime maybe? I don’t know if anyone has sussed it out yet, but Bo Nix will be a top 3 processor in the NFL the moment he’s drafted in my opinion. I’m not sure if there’s any current NFL QB as fast as him. Honestly, I’d love to see his metrics/analytics as they have to out of this world.

I like Daniels extra dimension on the move, but from a pure QB ceiling standpoint, there’s a good chance Nix is the best of the bunch and most likely to be a true generational player. The kid is a freak.

I loved the data set you posted not too long ago that highlighted this about Nix.

First QB that made me think of? Aaron Rogers.

I would not be unhappy if I heard the Vikings select Nix (if they cant get to Daniels)
