Reminds me of when Deshaun Watson said I'm not going to be a Brown. Then they guaranteed him $250M and suddenly he was up for it. Bears will do whatever they can to get Williams on board.
And they should. He's the best prospect in this upcoming class. Chicago is going to end up trading Fields, one way or the other....this year or the next. Fields is only 24 years old, somebody is going to give him another significant shot to be the guy. And if the Bears didn't have the lock to get Williams, they might have given Fields another year for sure in a real way. You can't be the team to pass on Caleb Williams. And I can't imagine the Bears would trade him (Fields) to a NFCN rival like Minnesota.

p.s. Carolina fucked up HARD. That's beyond debate.
I agree that the Bears are likely going to take Williams. But think about this. (And yes I'm aware the Bears aren't likely to trade Williams to the Vikings).

Someone recently figured the Bears would get the Vikings' 1st and 2nd rounder for the next two seasons in a trade back to 11. No clue how close that comp is, but I don't think it's far off.

So you're the Bears and you kinda think Fields might have a future and you're worried about Williams "baggage." Do you take Williams and trade Fields for a day two pick? Or do you keep Fields and build around him a formidable team with two top 11 picks this year, two 1sts, two 2nds next year, and two 1sts and two 2nds the following year?

Something to think about.

Using the Trey Lance trade as a measuring stick, Chicago will get three ones plus in a trade for that No. 1 pick.
Its amazing how the 49'ers were able to pretty much shake that off and keep on truckin - all the way to an NFCCG and #1 seed in 24. y

The screwed the pooch on Lance and got lucky as Fck with Purdy. Who's asked to do nothing but drive the Ferrari on Sundays.

SF built up their roster thru smart drafting (Lance being the exception) & FA acquisitions. That allowed them to insert a game manager QB like Purdy & still win.

There is no way on earth I would trade even 1 additional first alone for Williams. We will get a good QB at 11.
I'm hoping we stay in our slot or even trade down and still get a QB.  This team needs its picks.  Hell, if Penix is available after a traded down, that's not all bad.  Who knows, he might be the best QB of the group.  He looks damn good in purple too. B)

It's because draft picks are overrated. 49ers have had their fair share of busts to go along with Lance. Solomon Thomas, Reuben Foster, Javon Kinlaw, all recent 1st rounders and all massive busts.

Just like it took the NFL a hundred years to realize deferring the coin toss was the better decision, it might take another hundred to realize just how overrated draft picks are.

In a post about Purdy who was a 7th round pick, you're stating that draft picks are overrated? Wink

Caleb Williams has officially declared.
Purely pie in the sky hypothetical that won’t in a million years happen but I wonder what Chicago’s price would be for Number 1?

2024 #11, #42
2025 First, 2025 Second
Ivan Pace Jr

It’d be insane for the Vikings to offer that but even if we did, would Chicago accept it? This is why trades are so hard in the NFL.
They would be open to a Herschel Walker-style fleecing.  JJ, Darrisaw, 3 #1's and 3 #2's, something like that.

Who knows, Kwesi might do it if he finds out Williams has a career threatening injury that allows him to knock one of the #2's down to a 4th and unlock another Spreadsheet Value Victory Lap at TCO!

I may have responded to the wrong post, but it was a response to the idea that the 49ers could still be good despite losing all the picks they used to move up for Lance. It's because draft picks are overrated. Another example is the Rams. In seven seasons, five playoff appearances, two conference championships and a Lombardi....all without having a single 1st round draft pick.

Stay at 11, turn off your phone, do not trade down, and take Penix if he's there.

To what, sit on the bench for 2 years and then get hurt every season thereafter?

Any QB can get hurt on any play, even your boy got hurt without being touched. We need someone that is not afraid to chuck it up to JJ and we don't have it now so Penix is a good candidate.
