Possible bombshell— Wesley Steinberg, a NYG reporter, is saying Caleb Williams won’t play for the Bears and is waiting for a trade before declaring.

Doubt it affects us much in regards to drafting a QB but if true- wow. (Waiting for Sticky to start a separate thread on this in 3, 2…)

Caleb Williams talked about going back to school to avoid the Bears. From what I’ve been told, Caleb Williams “desperately” wants to be a Viking.

I’m guessing the “desperately” claim is probably a bit of an exaggeration, but it sounds like the Vikings are near the top of his list for his ideal outcome.
He does want to be a Viking.....unfortunately, it doesn't mean he will. His 'team' views the organization, the market and the opportunity as perfect for him to succeed and be mentored properly. I don't think its possible, but if KAM somehow maneuvers to get this kid, it will be a home run. Like an out of the park home run deal.
The Cards will trade up to #1 with an agreement in place to trade that pick to the Vikings. Vikings get Williams, Bears get Marvin 2.0 at 4 and the Cards get pick 11, plus a haul of future picks to build around Kyler Murray. So let it be written....
Even if that happened would they take Williams or maybe take Daniels?  Awhile ago there was a report that they were doing extensive background on Daniels, just wondering?
I'm sure they're doing extensive work on all of them. I reserve the right to change my mind, but right now I tend to agree with consensus that Williams is 1, Maye is 2, a slight gap, then Daniels, then a bigger gap.
I'd agree with this, seems to be the case right now. Minnesota can draft a QB at #11 if they want, we just don't know who they like.

Take Cam Ward off your Draft boards:

So not sure whom they have their eye on, but the kid will have an arm. Any video that I've watched about KOC discussing the position talks about the importance of arm strength in the NFL, the ability to make every throw. Now he's not saying its the MOST important, what he's saying is its a must-have as an attribute.

If they want McCarty or Penix or Nix in the first round, draft them at #11. There's just too many QB needy teams immediately behind us. Denver (12), LV (13), NO (14), Seattle (16), Pitt (TBD). If you can get your QBOTF without trading away future picks, then do it & call it a win.
I agree with the notion of taking a QB at 11 if your guy is there,  but like you say,  if there is a chance that somebody behind us is needing QB,  its likely they are looking at jumping ahead of us,  especially with Chicago sitting one pick ahead of us,  if they could get another 2nd round pick for dropping a few spots and screw a division rival at the same time.. you know that will get done.

While I agree with this, I don't think arm strength is a problem for any of the top 6 QBs in the draft. All of them seem to have good to great arm strength.

At this point, I’ve watched a few games on each guy and this is where I’m at:

1. Caleb Williams: the kid’s arm talent is exceptional. He also has one of the strongest I’ve seen. He’s going to be a nightmare for defensive coordinators. He should be a top target of the Vikings and worth gambling on at a significant level. If they go all in, as in multiple first round picks, I’m ok with it. He can start day one if need be. Comparison: Aaron Rodgers

2. Jayden Daniels: again, a matchup nightmare for opposing defenses. His athleticism is exceptional and I expect he’ll run at least in the 4.4’s. Arm talent is very good and he can make all the throws either from the pocket or on the move. His tape I’ve watched the least at this point. Comparison: Michael Vick

3. Bo Nix: Nix also brings a special athleticism to the position. He’s good running or throwing and it will cause problems. Like Daniels he’ll often require a spy. Arm talent is very good and his biggest positive I like to see indicating a great potential in the NFL is his accuracy. He has it to go along with very good ball placement. The best scenario I see for Nix though, is to sit and learn for a year or two. Coming out of the Oregon offense, he could use that time learning to read defenses etc from a veteran. Comparison: Ben Roethlisberger.
4. Drake Maye: Maye is the most frustrating evaluation of this class. His tape is a tale of two guys. On one play you can be left saying, “wow” what a throw, while the next you’re saying wtf. He’s young and probably of all of them, would benefit greatly being behind a guy for a year or two. His arm is great as long as his footwork is good, which is an area that needs work. The one big worry I have with him though is his processing speed. It is inconsistent which worries me going to the next level. Of all of them, he jumps out as the biggest boom or bust question. Comparison: Matthew Stafford
5. Penix: even though he has an odd throwing motion that I’m not a fan of, it is effective. Great arm talent and accuracy. Biggest concerns are durability and ability to deal with pressure. He’s a tough guy who will hang in there, but he has work to do (as do most of them) on this. Comparison: Kirk Cousins

If that's the case then we've seen the end of Mullens.

Going to be very interesting how it shakes out between McCarthy, Nix and Penix in that second tier of QB prospects. I still think you'll see the top 3 QB's gone in the top 3 picks in some order, McCarthy going anywhere from 6th to the Giants to New Orleans at 14, and anybody missing out on QB trying to trade into the later portions of the first round or early second round for Nix or Penix ala Teddy Bridgewater.
