Anyone here on the Penix train? Or JJMc?

Going to be fun watching both tonight.
Penix. JJ missed too many throws today while Penix kept fitting the ball in tight windows. Just my igorant observation from today’s game. Not sire if being a leftie is bad or puts him at a disadvantage but I will wait to hear from more knowledgeable folks
I've been on the Penix wagon all season,   just have a few concerns, mostly his injury history.   But he's my favorite of the bunch in terms of being a leader and a passer.  The kid just has an IT factor to him.
At some point I hope to figure him out, but right now Penix is an enigma to me. I agree with all the positives. He's got some IT factor, terrific accuracy and enough athleticism to maneuver in the pocket, but rarely runs. His patience in the pocket at Washington is going to translate well to the NFL.

But that release! Oh my. I can't believe no one's talking about this. At first I thought it was just that he's left handed, because I haven't seen a release like that since Tim Tebow. His footwork is even worse. Throws every ball as if he’s riding a horse. Legs apart, body out of alignment. It's nails on a chalkboard.

That said, the proof is in the pudding, right? If he delivers the ball on time and accurately, and man does he ever, what difference does it make how he releases it? And could he be even better if you improve it?
The latter portion of your post was a good foreshadowing for last night. The mechanics work when he is protected and allowed to simply point-guard the offense. Once pressured the lack of mechanics really breaks down his production and the ball ends up all over the place.
Which is alarming, considering that the pressure he saw against Michigan was just typical, every Sunday pressure in the NFL.
so would seeing pressure like that more often make him rise to challenge,  or curl up.  I have to think he would get better the more he sees that kind of pressure,  but how much better?  He was a long ways off from NFL ready from what we saw Monday night... add in his injury history and I find myself looking more at Nix and McCarthy,  although I wasnt blown away by JJMs passing ability either.

FWIW, NFLDraftBuzz.com takes the rankings from 10 leading draft sites and averages them.

Caleb Williams is 1.9, highest is 1st, lowest is 4th.
Drake Maye is 3.8, highest is 1st, lowest is 6th
Jayden Daniels is 21.3, highest is 8th, lowest is 71st
Michael Penix is 35.8, highest is 9th, lowest is 97th
Bo Nix is 36.5, highest is 7th, lowest is 66th
JJ McCarthy is 45.1, highest is 21st, lowest is 86th.

Probably wise to throw out the highest and lowest ranking for each since they appear to be somewhat anomalous.
Makes you wonder how recently those draft rankings were updated.  If Daniels makes it to 8 let alone 21 I'll eat cottage cheese.
Dude, I love cottage cheese.
This explains a lot  :p

I think the big decision is JJ McCarthy. QBs tend to stay or declare based on where NFL scouting services project them to go.

If that's in the 2nd round, where many have him, I think he stays. But there are a handful of respected draft analysts like Matt Miller who think he could be a top 15 pick. If that's where they place him, he probably declares.

Most of the connected draft guys have said scouts are telling them McCarthy is going to go higher than he's being projected by the media right now.

I get that impression. I think the NFL sees him as a projection pick, a piece of clay. How might he have looked in a passing offense? He's three years younger than Bo Nix. What might he look like in three years?

This is it exactly. He's also a very good athlete. He's 6'3"+ and can add 5-8 lbs of muscle on that frame easily. Nice arm. Smart kid. Has swagger. Can throw in tight windows. A piece of clay learning behind Kirk Cousins? Sign me up.
5 star high school QB.

I think the fact that McCarthy is only 20, is a flat out winner, and has the physical skillet to make all the throws will eventually trump his lack of statistics. If he declares (and I think what happens with Harbuagh is going to be big), I really don't see him dropping past our pick at #11. Problem is you have the Giants picking at #6 who is reportedly in on QB, the Falcons at #8 who is obviously in on QB, and I think the Jets picking #10th could also be in on QB.

The top 3 are going to be out of reach for Minnesota, so if we wanted McCarthy, the sweet spot is probably going to be trading up with the Chargers at #5 to get ahead of these teams
