2024 QB Watch
#51
Per Schefter, college juniors who have declared for the draft are now allowed to play in the year end college all-star games traditionally reserved for Seniors (Shrine Bowl, Senior Bowl, etc). Interesting shake up

Half way through the season we are sitting at 20 in the draft order. So how many QB-needy teams are drafting ahead of us?
Arizona? maybe. They are at the 1 spot now so that will be a QB either by Az or by trade.
Chicago? Very possible. Unless you think they are sticking with Fields.
Chicago again. Trade this to a team that wants a QB or take Harrison, Jr.
Giants? Jones just tore an ACL. Put them down for a QB.
NE? Their Jones kinda sucks, too. They need a QB.
Rams? Stafford should be about done. Draft a QB
GB? Let's assume they stick with Love despite what Gutekunst said.
TB? You think they want to stick with Baker? Draft a QB.
Denver? Can Russ still cook? Take a QB.

So that is just the first 9 selections. It does not include Atlanta, Las Vegas, NYJ, or N.O.
Yep. If MIN wants a QB they're going to have to find a team willing to move down quite a bit, and outbid other teams also looking to move up. The cost is going to be very high and it's frankly something I'm trying not to think about because I want to enjoy any wins that come our way in 2023.
those 8-9 wins sure are fun.

Not sure if this was an NCAA decision or an NFL one but it's smart if they want to get more eyeballs on the game from casual fans. More eyes = more money of course.

It will certainly increase the roster talent in those games. I guess the downside is less roster spots for the small college seniors looking to make an impression with NFL Scouts like a Quinn Meinerz. Just further proof though that college football has gone into a full on business mode model and tradition is a thing of the past if it doesn't fit into the money narrative.

Been saying this all along. After some in the media were saying this may have been Cousins last snap with the Vikings, some of us argued that Cousins' injury makes it more likely he's back, not less.

A healthy Cousins would likely get a top of market deal. I don't know that the Vikings would be competitors in that. But because of the injury, Cousins will be halfway through his recovery when these negotiations take place. IOW, he will not be able to prove he's ready to go. That should keep his price down.

Vikings might also think the '24 team can be a legit Super Bowl contender if they bring key pieces back like Cousins and Hunter.

I think if the 49'ers net out after this season that Purdy isnt their guy, they could go hard after Cousins.

Lots of ifs to go, but since we're in speculating mode...
