Right now my assessment would be that Caleb Williams is not going to be the first QB picked in the draft.
Hes starting to get a Baker Mayfield look to me, strong arm, escapanilty in and out of the pocket, but not always the best accuracy and can make some dumb turnovers trying to make plays that aren't there.
I live in LA and have watched every game he has played, his game is nothing like Mayfield, Williams is 10x more athletic and 10x more cerebral and more intelligent than Mayfield. He is a very grounded kid who conducts himself as a pro, he does not have a huge ego and doing narcissistic stuff like Mayfield. The only comp for him is Mahomes. If you take a look at the USC defense, they pretty much allow the opponents to score on every series, even Cal put up 49 on them, so every time Caleb steps on the field he is in a must score situation which has put him in a situation where he has to take more risks, he doesn't have the benefit of a strong defense and being able to play more conservatively.
I was with you until you compared him to Mahomes. Yesterday before the half he looked more like Cousins than Mahomes in that in the final second he took a sack rather than chuck it to the endzone. Yes, I saw his good plays and I also saw his bumbles. His accuracy is still in question for me. On a roll-out I saw receivers in single coverage steps ahead of the defender but he through it away instead. Again, more like Cousins and not Mahomes.
I'm still a big McCarthy fan, but one kid who's growing on me is Bo Nix. This kid has a lot of qualities that seem to mesh well with what KOC would want in this offense. He's accurate, mobile, got a live arm, seems to process things well. I liked him last year but it seems he's taken another step up this season.
I'm not too fond of how old he'll be (24 next season), but it seems quite a few college QB's have begun coming out later recently, including guys like Burrow, Pickett, and Levis.
Half way through the season we are sitting at 20 in the draft order. So how many QB-needy teams are drafting ahead of us?
Arizona? maybe. They are at the 1 spot now so that will be a QB either by Az or by trade.
Chicago? Very possible. Unless you think they are sticking with Fields.
Chicago again. Trade this to a team that wants a QB or take Harrison, Jr.
Giants? Jones just tore an ACL. Put them down for a QB.
NE? Their Jones kinda sucks, too. They need a QB.
Rams? Stafford should be about done. Draft a QB
GB? Let's assume they stick with Love despite what Gutekunst said.
TB? You think they want to stick with Baker? Draft a QB.
Denver? Can Russ still cook? Take a QB.
So that is just the first 9 selections. It does not include Atlanta, Las Vegas, NYJ, or N.O.

Yep. If MIN wants a QB they're going to have to find a team willing to move down quite a bit, and outbid other teams also looking to move up. The cost is going to be very high and it's frankly something I'm trying not to think about because I want to enjoy any wins that come our way in 2023.

The good news is it shouldn't cost much to move up say 20 spots. Just swap some 2s around and 3s. Maybe Chicago would be willing to do it since they're in our division?

Simple solution;Just follow the example that the Lions set in the first round of the 2022 draft.
IF KC can move up to #12 for Mahomes, the Vikings can make a move if they have enough conviction on a kid...I'd love to see how they stack their board come April.
Apparently there are some in the Vikes organization who are big JJ fans (for whatever reason I can't embed Tweets but that's what the tweet/video refers to).

Yeah, but do a better job of drafting once you get there.
