Right now my assessment would be that Caleb Williams is not going to be the first QB picked in the draft.

Lol! =) =) =) There has not been a consensus #1 pick like this in the NFL in since maybe Payton Manning.  He is going to be a NFL star day one.  Watching him make plays tonight that no one other than Mahomes can make.

Well I've been wrong before. Penix, McCarthy, Nix, and Maye are right there.

Hes starting to get a Baker Mayfield look to me, strong arm,  escapanilty in and out of the pocket,  but not always the best accuracy and can make some dumb turnovers trying to make plays that aren't there.

Penix isn't lasting to 10.  Vikings should have a chance at one of McCarthy or Nix if they want them.
So,  for the team that takes Penix,  do you still covet a strong LT as much as you would with a right handed QB?  Of course your backups are probably right handed,  and a good OT is a good OT,  bit do pay a premium to a guy that isn't protecting the blind side?

Does a left handed QB screw up the offense from a play caller/designer stand point?

I wonder if the fact that Penix is a southpaw if that will be a mark against him by some teams.  As a lefty myself I know that I've had coaches in about every sport I've played that have restricted me from positions,  or tried to change my game up someway to make me more right handed.

I like a lot of what I see in Penix,  very strong pocket game,  can move when needs to,  but typically a strong accurate passer,  I do question his processing speed,  but that's probably more a matter of how good his OL is that he rarely has to get the ball out quickly and is used to being able to let plays develop.

Personally,  I've watched about 3 games of his this year and wouldn't have a problem if they took him at any spot over any available QBs as of now.  If he can adjust to the speed of the pro rush and complexity of the pro blitzes,  I think he could be as good as any of the guys mentioned this year,  maybe better.  Kids got a ton of poise.

imo, Williams, Penix, McCarthy, Nix, and Maye will all be starters in the NFL and they probably will start as rookies.

I live in LA and have watched every game he has played, his game is nothing like Mayfield, Williams is 10x more athletic and 10x more cerebral and more intelligent than Mayfield.  He is a very grounded kid who conducts himself as a pro, he does not have a huge ego and doing narcissistic stuff like Mayfield.  The only comp for him is Mahomes.  If you take a look at the USC defense, they pretty much allow the opponents to score on every series, even Cal put up 49 on them, so every time Caleb steps on the field he is in a must score situation which has put him in a situation where he has to take more risks, he doesn't have the benefit of a strong defense and being able to play more conservatively.

I didn't mean it in a negative way.  Mayfield was a jell of a college QB.  I just see similarities in their games,  not meaning their personalities.   I watched the kid cry in who I assume was his moms arms after the loss last night,  pretty tough to see kids get their hearts broke.

I'll tell you who deserves some attention, and I love this kid.

Strong armed, athletic as hell, quick to process...

Hell, he's already wearing some purple now. He and JJ got a little history in common.

Good catch, if I am a NFL GM that tells me everything about him, there were a lot of advisors who were telling him to sit out the season and especially after their 2nd loss to not risk an injury with no chance of a playoff game, but that is how bad he wants to win and is loyal to his teammates.
