Looks pretty darn good for both sides - IMO.  Good job!

Funny how the devil is in the details.  Hock resets the market but in reality it isn't a bad contract for the Vikes.

Great move by KAM, Vikings front office staff = great day for Viking Nation.

Glad to see TJH will be here haunting defenses for a while.

Keep in mind that his "record setting deal" included the $9.4mm due on the last year of his rookie contract...or so I've seen.
There are even more details at Over the Cap. It's worth remembering that the roughly $9.4 million fifth-year option on Hockenson's rookie deal is still a part of this whole equation.

Total money over the next 5 years: 75,392,000
Minus existing 5th year option of 9,392,000
________________________________________________
New money over 5 years: $66,000,000 or 13.2 mil per year
New money by year:
2023:  $10 mil (over previous 5th year option of 9,392,000)
2024:  $10.5 mil
2025: $11.5 mil
2026:  $ 16 mil
2027:  $18 mil

New money in 4 years of extension: $56 mil or $14 mil per year.

So Hock gets an extra $10 mil right away, then averages just under Kelce money for 4 years.  Considering what we paid Theilen from '19-'22, not a bad deal at all.

I wonder if those ear drops will start working today and he can start practicing with the team.
A WR/TE and drops is nothing you ever want think about.

I think Hock fell in love with Minnesota from Day 1 of the trade: the organization, players, fans, facilities, the city, coaches, etc. Felt instantly at home.

Cue for the people who were bitching that Kwesi wasn't getting contracts done to start bitching that Kwest overpaid.

Perhaps one reason JJ is the last negotiation standing is because unlike Hunter and Hock, he already had a payday in the bag for next year with his 5th year option being about $24 million. Another possibility is that with the "next man up" getting the biggest deal, maybe JJ wants to try and wait out JaMarr Chase next offseason.  Instead off JJ signing now and Chase topping him next spring, maybe Chase signs first and JJ leapfrogs him?
If you're referring to me (and/or Supa)...  I'll take a thank you for my part in getting Hock signed to an extension.

I mean it's pretty clear my cyber bitching about Kwesi not having extended or re-signed any current Vikings was the catalyst for this.  :-D

As far as the contract, I'm perfectly fine with it.  It's dumb to call it an overpay until you see the actual contract details. As someone posted above, we got him signed now in his prime with the option to extend after 3 years and it isn't going to blow up our cap situation.  Glad we got to this done because it would have sucked to not have him in the fold to start the season.
