NO WAY Levis drops to 23...

That would be reminiscent of Rogers.

No, I dont think Levis has that upside, but it would still be rather DeJa Vu.
Even if Levis falls out of the top 10 there is a gauntlet of teams that would grab him way before 23.  I think we need to move up to the Jets(13) or Patriots(14) picks because the Pack are at 15 and then Washington who would love Levis at 16.  I would think the Lions at 18 would draft him.  Then the Buccs at 19 would take him.  Seattle at 20 if they didn't take a QB at 5 would also be a team to draft Levis.  No way he falls to 23.  We would need to move up into that 13/14 pick range so about 10 spots.

The same goes for Herndon Hooker .... "IF" we do our due diligance and find him first round worthy and Levis is gone then we have to consider that same gauntlet of QB needy teams - IMO!
We all say "no way" but as PF reminds us, Aaron Rodgers fell. He was considered neck and neck with Alex Smith all the way up to draft day. Smith went 1st and Rodgers fell all the way to 24, mostly due to teams filling other needs, but also because of previous failures of QBs who played in the same system as Rodgers at Cal...and rumors of arrogance and entitlement. OK, those proved accurate. :-)

Do I think Levis falls to 23? No, I wouldn't bet on it. But never say never.
But I don't want to rely on Levi or even Hooker falling to 23.  If we do our due diligence and think Levi or Hooker are first round talent, then we will need to act on that and not just "hope" they fall to 23 - IMO.
The other side of the argument is that the Vikings aren't desperate for a QB. They already have a good one. Sure, we all want the QBOTF in the pipeline, and we all know if you wait until you ARE desperate, and end up reaching, bad things can happen (Ponder). Hopefully the Vikings intel on other teams' intentions is razor sharp.
Thats an unrealistic expectation imo - especially with QB's.

I dont know what the intentions of the Vikings were with Fields within their grasp, but I dont think anyone saw the Bears getting that bold and moving up to get em.

You don't think we dodged a bullet there? You regret not moving up for Fields?
Jury is still out, right?
Fair enough. He still has a chance. He improved a bit last year, but I think that's mostly because he became more of a threat running the ball. I think you'd like to see that trend reverse though. He could be headed down a bad road if he becomes too dependent on that.

I've never been big on this guy and this kind of cemented it..

Somewhat disappointing day for TCU WR Quenton Johnston at the Frogs’ pro day. Expected to blow people away with a 4.4 type 40-clocking, the times reported for Johnston were all in the 4.50 range – and that’s the unofficial time – suggesting that he actually may have timed closer to 4.55 or even 4.60. Johnston also had a couple of drops on the day. The buzz around the league, though, at least for the moment is that teams know how fast he plays and combine that with his size (6-3, 212) he still figures to be in the mix to be the first receiver off the board next month. Also note that Bill Belichek was there from New England and the receiver-needy Patriots have the 14th pick, as was Green Bay GM Brian Gutehurst, whose WR-needy Packers pick 15th. Of course, it wouldn’t be a major WR workout this year if the Giants didn’t take the guy to dinner the night before, which they did!

Lots of chatter after his Pro Day that his floor would be 5th to the Seahawks. Orlovsky thinks he is in the mix to be the top overall pick to Carolina. I still think someone trades up with Arizona #3 and QB's are the first 4 picks of the draft, unless it's Indy that moves into thar spot. Regardless the top 4 QB's should go early

Gimme fast on tape over combine and pro days.  Lots of people are blazing fast on a watch,  but put pads on and some live hitting and they aren't so special.  I've never seen a snap this kid has played,  but if he looks good on game film and he was playing against good talent, that means a lot more than how slow he might have ran in the circus like whirlwind of pre draft workouts.

He's 6-3, 212. His pro day times varied between 4.46 and 4.52, which is not slow at all.

Love that Ponder smile and why not? That smile says, yeah I got a wife who will make more money, last longer in professional football, and never take a hit. I'd be smiling too!
It sucks Ponder was a bust, but that entire QB draft class was a bust outside of Cam Newton who was the top overall pick and had major concerns himself coming in. Jake Locker, Gabbert, Andy Dalton, and Kaepernick. Just land mines everywhere. I wanted Mike Pouncey that year as we had a major need along the interior of our offensive line. I don't fault Rick for taking a swing at a QB and Ponder had a lot of good qualities coming in, but Bill Musgrave got ahold of him and the rest in history. Rick rebounded though in the second round taking Kyle Rudolph who turned into the greatest TE in team history and if we hypothetically had swapped the draft positions of Ponder and Rudolph, I don't think you'd get the same amount of vinegar relating to the pick.
Compare to '22 QB draft class where the only one looking to be worth a crap is Mr. Irrelevant.

I agree which is why I still like Jaylin Hyatt the best out of this WR class. It's real speed that pops on tape and his production was against SEC competition. I don't think Johnston looks fast on tape and the 40 time kind of confirmed that. Kelee Ringo shut his ass down in the National Championship game, 1 catch for 3 yards. Reminds me of Kevin White coming out of West Virginia.

I’ve finished my review of potential QB’s I would take in round 1.

Only 1 emerged at our selection for me and that is Hendon Hooker. I wouldn’t touch Levis - the risk is too high. Tape on Hooker screams 1st round pick, but he’s recovering from injury and a little older. The Vikings will get the perfect guy for the future with Hooker!
