you are a lot more optimistic about our young CBs than I am. Dantzler has shown some seriously poor decision making at times, and the rest have only show a flicker of what they can or cant do. Also IMO they are all either to short, to light, or both, sure they will win some, but they will also be schemed against as well. I would like to see the Vikings find some 6-2 guys that are 205-210 that can flip hips as well as stay physical at the LOS, they shouldnt have to cover speed burners down field as when you get that matchup you have S help, or you should, but guys that get a good jam at the line to disrupt timing routes, and then have the length and height, to swat a ball away on the routes that they do get targeted on. the smaller guys can cover, but like we hear all the time, at this level everyone is covered, they need to be able to do the other things I am looking for to be what I would consider fixing the position.
Of the prospects that fit that profile and have a chance to be there at 23, Deonte Banks of Maryland had a great showing today. 4.35 forty, smooth hip transitions, good in run support. Ringo was also impressive with similar times and measurables. Despite all that, I'm having an internal struggle with wanting to burn another 1st Rounder on a CB when the class is soooo deep and we can get a starter in Day 2 of the draft, especially if we trade down. However, if the CB talent is just that good, it's hard to take a pass on some of these guys who could have a major impact on fixing our defense.
Straight line speed is nice, but IMO short area quickness times are more important in about every aspect of football. You can have guys with good 40 times, that just play slow because they don't have a good initial burst, or can't change direction fast enough, rare are the bigger guys that are quick. I was that way, in a 40, I coukd hold my own, but put me on guys that had good short area speed and I was toast if I couldn't get them at the LOS, I could catch up, but just couldn't stop and go as fast as some....probably why I tend to go for the quicker than fast type at most positions, it just seems to translate to the game better.
But thanks for the heads up on those 2. Once I start looking at potential picks I will be sure to look for them.

2. No way we see him fall that far, unless there is more to this story than I am aware of at this time, he still goes top 10, likely top 3. I am guessing any rumors of him getting dropped from boards is to try and create a situation where GMs or other start to over think a selection and get talked out of making the smart choice.
Some teams reportedly have dropped him off their boards since there were already some character/work ethic questions prior to this incident. What his role was will also determine whether more teams drop him from their boards. I'd be a little disturbed if he was racing, saw the crash occur, then basically left the scene while they were dying in their vehicle to save his draft stock. So ultimately his draft stock is still being determined, but if he fell to the Vikings spot...I'd be interested to see what they'd do considering talent wise he is arguably the best player in the draft and happens to fit our biggest need.

Nolan Smith is interesting. Highly ranked coming out of high school and had to sit and pay his dues behind all those great players at Georgia last year. This was supposed to be his year to shine but missed most of the season with a pectoral tear. If for whatever reason we move on from Zadarius, he probably enters the conversation for us at #23

But I think it's important to get a gauge on how these guys interview when you know you're probably going to be interviewing a dozen or more in the next few years. Doesn't mean they won't draft one this year though. But it's gonna have to be a huge move (future 1sts, Hunter, etc) and it's hard to see that happening.

It's being reported the cost for the Bears to move off the first pick and drop outside of the top five would cost a team this years1st and 2nd round picks, along with first round picks in the 2024 and 2025. I'd imagine the cost for the Vikings to jump into the top 10 for a quarterback would be something similar.
