Doogie: 'Vikings have offered contract extension to Cousins'

Here's my question: If we can't reach an extension before free agency opens, will that trigger a trade? The teams that desperately need a QB like Indy, Steelers, that have the money to fit him under the cap are not going to wait around. If Kwesi and O'Connell have made the decision that they will not let Kirk play out his final year at a $45 Million Cap Hit, and Kirk is hell bent on becoming a Free Agent, I'm not sure we have much choice. Should be interesting to see what happens between now and 12:00 Monday Morning when Free Agency deals can be "Officially" discussed. If Kirk won't agree to an extension now, I can't imagine he will before becoming a Free Agent where he can maximize his contract value.
In my opinion, if no extension is worked out, Cousins gets traded.  It is as simple as this, if Cousins chooses to plays out his current contract, then the Vikes have to expect he will leave in free agency next year.  (Besides, in the new offense, Cousins will probably have better stats and want even more money.).  If he leaves, the Vikes probably get a 3rd round comp pick (can't get higher than that).  If they choose to trade him now, they will get a better return in draft picks.  Kwesi, being Wall Street trained, will have to take that in consideration.

I don't use emojis but if we had a "Stickied" one, I would use it.

Here’s something for the “wins are a QB stat” crowd:
NFL avg pts allowed since 2018: 22.3

Kirk Cousins, as a Viking, when the defense allows <= 22.3:     21-4

Saw this tweet last night and did some digging, hopefully my numbers are correct:

2018 - Vikes averaged 22.5 Points. Defense gave up 21.3
Vs Playoff Teams: Vikes averaged 17.29 points and the Defense gave up 26.14

2019 - Vikes averaged 25.4 Points. Defense gave up 18.8
Vs Playoff Teams: Vikes averaged 23.4 Points. Defense gave up 25.4 Points

2020 - Vikes averaged 26.87 Points. Defense gave up 29.69 Points
Vs Playoff Teams: Vikes averaged 25.14 Points. Defense gave up 32.71 Points

2021 - Vikes averaged 25 Points. Defense gave up 25 Points
Vs Playoff Teams: Vikes averaged 25 Points. Defense gave up 30.1 Points

Kirk and the offense struggled mightily the first two years vs playoff teams, but was solid the last two years. Every year since Kirk arrived Zim's defense performed significantly worse vs good teams. Glad Zim is gone

Also worth noting, Over the last 4 years the Vikes gave up 22 Points or less 29 times out of 65 games...19 of those times came in 2018 and 2019.

I have the Vikes record as 23-6 when holding teams to 22 points or less.

They only held their opponent to 22 points or less 3 times in 2020, but did 7 times this year. Vikes record in those games the last two years was 8-2.

Sorry if I dont give a sh*t about what Zim had to say about Cousins. Tough to win games when you're giving up a ton of points.

That's a funny way to phrase things.  It makes it sounds like you are arguing that Kirk is the reason Zimmer's defense started to suck and then you wrap it up blaming Zimmer.

"Ever since I gave my girlfriend my credit card number, my bank account has been empty.  I guess I shouldn't have been buying those $4 coffees."

I'm spinning off the tweet that Paul Charchian posted. Trust me, I dont think Kirk is a top 5 or top 7 QB. I think he hovers around Top 10-12 and has been awesome the last two years. Also, I'm trying to bring light to the fact that Zimmer was a grumpy old man who blamed others when his defense struggled. Granted, the defense faced a TON of injuries in those years, but for him to bash Kirk because he was butthurt is downright comical. He was never prepared against good teams and what I posted proves that.

Zim’s D started to suck because we used premium picks on the OL and offense in general the last several years. When we did use premium picks on D they were busts. So when all your good guys gey old, they dont preform as well as they did in years past.
