This debate on Kirk will soon reveal itself.  If Group 1 (stick with Cousins and he could win a SB) or Group 2 (get the most for him to rebuild) will be answered by the interest level from the QB market.  If a team is as enamored by Kirk's stats as some on here, they will show their hand and pursue heavily.  If a team is not enamored by his stats, we will see a very light market.

I am hoping for a team that absolutely "Loves" Kirk and gives us a nice deal because I think we are way more than a couple of players away and advocate a quick rebuild.

Not sure a quick rebuild = Trubisky or a Mariota....Cause thats what you'll get @ QB.

And as far as drafting one? We've all seen the stats on drafting QBs and what % of them even reach KC level. And 22 aint the year to pass on an edge or corner for a weak qb class offering.

But yah, whether you're the Seahawks with Russel Wilson or Vikings with KC, you gotta take those calls this time of year.

what about the third group.... the one that says Kirk is adequate, but not without some real improvements to the OL an D, that he needs to help cover on a roster that is depleted and team that is cap strapped.. and I dont mean by kicking that cap hit down the road and is why we are where we are right now.  I want off this merry go round.  give him an offer that works for the team and if he doesnt sign then let the bidding ( and rebuild) begin.

as far as drafting a QB... its 23 for me... no point in taking a low percentage shot with a premium draft pick.  you still might miss,  but we also have to consider that we will miss 100% of the shots we dont take and even if KC gets extended.. his expiration date is certainly looming so we will still need to be finding his replacement in a year or two regardless.

Like you brought up in another post, it's time to shit or get off the pot with Cousins. He either signs a reasonable extension that gives us some cap flexibility or we trade him with only one year left on his deal. This can't be something we continually revisit every offseason or every other offseason as we struggle to get under the cap and sign our own free agents. Nobody wants to deal with that, and again he'll be 34 years old prior to the season starting and is not considered to be an elite player at his position (with the exception being a few people on this board). I have zero problem going into this year with Mond or a less expensive option under center if that means it gives us cap relief to build the roster moving forward and it lands us in the top 10 of next year's draft, where we select our QB of the future from a much deeper talent pool. I just don't consider Kurt bending us over a barrel on another big money contract as the best option in building this roster for the long haul.

Even with a $35M Cousins cap hit last year, the Vikings still had plenty of money to spend on their defense. With a $45M hit in '22, the Vikings will likely extend Cousins (at market value), add some void years, dropping his cap and giving us money to spend on the defense again this year. It's just a game and everyone plays it. And remember when that $45M hit was considered an astronomical number? It now ranks 3rd. Watson 4th, Tannehill 5th. Goff and Wentz round out the top 10. And you think WE are wasting money.

Also, YOU may have zero problem going with Mond and tanking and spending the next two or three years rebuilding around a '23 top 10 pick who may or may not be able to play in the NFL, but I'd bet Jefferson, Cook and company would have a problem with it.

A big decision is looming, but I'm just happy we have a new HC and GM that can make a level headed decision. It makes me chuckle when folks say "See, Zimmer never liked Cousins because he knew he sucked". Zim hated every freaking offensive pick over the last two years except for Jefferson. Perhaps we have all forgotten that he refused to play Mond in the Packers game and only did when he had to. Whatever happens, I am going to trust the new regime.

You can add me (and a whole bunch of other season tix holders) in that gotta a problem with tanking line...Maybe I'll cop a couple of great autographs while standing there.

Plenty of money to spend? We were able to land Peterson, Woods, and Richardson on 1 year deals because they wanted to play for Zimmer. Tomlinson (who was a bust) is on the last year of a two year deal. So we didn't have "money to spend" necessarily and the likelihood is none of those guys will be retained. You probably aren't going to get the same type of player discount with veteran free agents who want to play for Ed "The Illusion" Donnatell. How they play the game of cap shuffling remains to be seen.

On Cousins, what do you think is the ceiling for this team is for the upcoming season? I think the reality is we are brining in a completely new coaching staff with two completely new systems on both sides of the ball that requires different personnel, and even with Cousins...we are probably only an 8 or 9 win team. What does that get us besides drafting in the low teens again, missing out on what should be an excellent QB draft, and Cousins cap number hindering our ability to retain free agents and build the roster as he ages into his mid 30's? Again Zimmer and Spielman were fired because the Wilfs and this fan base were tired of mediocrity. Kirk Cousins and his contract should all figure into that equation as well.
