Is Zimmer in a real snit with Cousins?

See Rodgers and his patch work line yesterday
We can cherry pick one game, but the Packers have a young patchwork line for the first time in Rodgers career.  And despite all the warm fuzzies of him coming back, you have to wonder where his mental state is...  does he still have that edge or does he have one foot out the door?

All I'm gonna say is look at OL guys like Nate Solder, Bryan Bulaga, etc who all left Green Bay and New England and got PAID...  and now they haven't had nearly the same success protecting other QBs...  Meanwhile GB and NE just kept plugging in guys and never missed a beat.

Beginning of the end of an era...Zimmer is gone after this year. Shame is I think Cousins could be an elite QB with a serviceable OL and any fucking continuation at coordinator.
Cousins doesn't have the internal stuff to ever be elite.  That's why when everyone says Rodgers and Brady are elite because of their OL...  they are the ones making them look THAT good by getting the ball out in time and extending plays by navigating the pocket.  Kirk doesn't have that and never will or he'd have shown it by now.
Does Zimmer have the internal stuff to be an elite HC? Unfortunately, we were just a bit too good to fire him 2 yrs. ago and replace him with Stefanski.

I was watching the red zone Sunday after the Vikes game and then highlights yesterday on Total Access. One thing came to mind how pedestrian our offense is. Boring and predictable, I really believe an overhaul is necessary to sustain success.

If Cousins was an elite QB, you'd know it by now.  You don't get to your 10th season being an elite QB that is constantly held back by teams so subpar that your career record ends up average.  Cousins could put up elite numbers for a season or a couple if the situation is perfect, but being elite means you bring up those around you.

Cousins is no Brady, but sometimes I wonder how many here actually watch other games. Our offensive line isn’t on the same planet as the Bucs or the vast majority of the lines in the NFL. They suck, especially up the middle. Our “pocket” folds regularly and any QB is going to struggle when the center of the line is pushed into their lap on a regular basis. It doesn’t just impact the QB; it doesn’t give WR’s the necessary time to get open. It’s that combination that makes it difficult to get in sync. That and an incredible amount of drive killing penalties. Sloppy and undisciplined kills success.

We have good skill position players, a good QB, and a terrible line. We have a below average scheme that is predictable and being poorly called. There’s nothing like continuously calling deep drop slow developing plays when your line is constantly crumbling.
Our defense is average, with questionable decision making by the coaching staff on who to start.
What does this mean? It means we don’t have a championship caliber team and will not unless there’s a dramatic shift. There isn’t any one player that is going to change that. It needs to happen at an organizational level.

What I have been saying but much more eloquently stated.

Yes, it's true that some QBs, through quick decision making, make their OLs look a lot better than they are. And it's also true that Cousins probably lacks a certain mental toughness that makes some QBs better than others.

However, wouldn't you just ONCE like to see what this QB could do with maybe BETTER than average protection? Picture it: you have one of the NFL's most accurate QBs, especially on deep balls, a guy who has one of the best completion percentages in NFL history, the QB who has thrown more 30+ TDs than anyone in the NFL the last 5 seasons, the QB who, over two years, has the best passer rating from a clean pocket.

Imagine THAT guy with rock solid protection. No leaks, time to survey the field, make a throw. Fun to think about.

Like I've said all off-season...  we can dream up these scenarios where everything is perfect, but it never happens.  Even for the elite QBs, look at Mahomes who saw his offensive lime decimated by injuries by the end of the year.

Injuries happen, teams are forced to adjust, but the elite QBs give their team a wider margin to overcome those things. So yes...  I guess if we get incredibly lucky and have a top 5 OL and have no injuries to that unit or any of our skill players, Cousins might be able to win us a Championship.  The reality is those things aren't likely to happen.  And Kirk doesn't have what Brady and Brees had and he's not able to do extend plays like Mahomes, Rodgers, Wilson, etc. so here we are...  and round and round we go on Kirk.
