And now it looks like the Hunter situation may be coming to a head.
I don't think Hunter and his reps were thrilled the Vikings said "No issue look away"
How serious is this situation, Geoff? On a scale of he'll get over it and play to Get me the F*** out of here before I go nuclear on all your asses.
Well 1-2 is there isn't really an issue or I would like a new deal. 3-5 is wants a new deal and there are rumblings. So we're at about a 7-8 since this is Hunter's reps pressuring the Vikings media.
I get why the Vikings wouldn't want to make a deal now (cap down this year, coming off injury, 3 years left on deal/don't want to set precedent), but considering his value to this team, couldn't they look to make him a deal and protect themselves if the injury is worse than thought?

Maybe that precedent has already been set here.
I think it was, with Thielen. But the problem here is that Hunter is coming off a neck injury. Without knowing all the details, that's what concerns me the most. If he was healthy and came off a usual season for him then I'd be all for it.
...and with Diggs, right? Want out - demand it. Sure, I get the difference with Hunter being injured, but he may consider himself just as deserving as Thielen and Diggs.

Very curious about Geoff's remarks. If Hunter felt he could have returned and played part of 2020 but the Vikings shut him down, he could be ticked if they are now saying, "You missed a full season, no renegotiation".

I just don't get this at all. He's in the middle of a contract extension he signed two seasons ago and didn't play a single down last season with a neck injury.  His standing right now on getting an extension is about as bad as it could be.  If he plays next season back up to his usual standard....sure, let's talk extension, but right now his standing on demanding a new deal is shaky at best.  Demanding a trade is laughable
I can't share the details and typically would agree with your take. But I am 100% on Danielle's side on this matter. There was a lot that went on behind the scenes. I am actually more surprised he hasn't made a bigger deal of the situation.
I really don’t care what his issue is or what they did. I’m getting sick of him and his attitude. A big park of me wants them to get a kings ransom for him and be done.

Three-year deal that maxes out at $21 million, source says. Reachable incentives in there.

I think it was Matt Coller who dove into this discussion recently, and compared it to JJ Watt. Watt had some injury (not sure which it was, might have been his back) and came back within a couple months only re-aggravate it and get shut down. Here you have Hunter with an unknown neck injury. Maybe it was good for him to take a lot of time off for it to properly heal, although I'm not a doctor and sure as hell didn't stay at a Holiday Inn last night.

Regardless, there's a lot going on here from what Geoff is saying, but I damn well wouldn't want to lose out on a talented young pass rusher. Hopefully some kind of resolution can be had.

Send Hunter to Jax for their 2nd, 2022 1st and 2022 2nd

Hard to “feel” for him at this point. zero leverage yet biting the hand that feeds

How do these rumors about Hunter being unhappy and/or wanting out affect a free agent DE or CB who is being wooed by this organization?

Despite little cap space, the Vikings are expected to be in on two of the top free agents -- guard Joe Thuney and CB Shaquill Griffin. They'll have plenty of competition for their services, but the Vikings are interested.Show this thread

Oh man. More resources at CB. If this happens, I might choose violence.
Adding a CB in free agency makes some sort of financial success since every single corner on the team is on a rookie contract, but where's the need there vs. DL? I don't see it. This time of year, I think teams try to be in on pretty much everyone. "IN" meaning nothing more than asking about price in case they miss on higher priority free agents. JMO.

I mean we did make giving up big passing yards an art form this year.

Looks like if we traded him we'd eat $12M and save $5M.  The dude is the 2nd highest paid player on our team.  I find it hard to believe that $17M in 2021 isn't enough?

I know Geoff says the teams did him a little dirty in some way, but I agree,  coming off a missed season,  in the middle of a good paying contract,  I just tell him prove it on the field or we will wait for him to decide he wants to continue his career.  The team cant let him dictate the terms,  and if the team did screw him around then it should get out so that other players agents know not to make the same deals with Speilman or whoever made the them think he would get a  new deal already.
