Franchise tags piss off players (see Cousins). Snyder has franchise tagged Scherff as many times in the last two years as the Vikings have used the tag in its 25 year history. 
I think committing $15M/yr to Scherff on a long-term deal is risky given his durability. Shockingly I don't think his market was going to be as crazy as Thuney's so this may work out for him $ wise. Could easily lead to a long-term deal since I don't think Washington will love the $18M cap hit. But in the end I actually don't think this is bad for Scherff.. he loses long-term security but should hit the market when the cap rebounds a bit.
