I wonder how many of these workers voted for Biden knowing he wanted to close down the project and cut their jobs?  Pretty bad optics for Buttigieg to smirk when people have lost their jobs and smile that they can get one of the "potential maybe" jobs down the road.  Perhaps they will, but definitely not a given, and no timeline, likely a huge economic impact.  Is compassion too much to ask?
At the bold...With what we witnessed the past four years, yes unfortunately it is.
This does not mean I disagree with your ask

You know what bad optics are? Pretending it's "jobs" you care about when you're the #1 recipient of oil and gas money in the US government.

As BTC says, jobs in renewable energy are the fastest growing jobs in America. Already they outnumber fossil fuel jobs by 3 to 1. But because of people like Cruz pretending to care about 1200 jobs while he rakes in nearly $1M a year from oil and gas to keep us mired in that dying technology, the world now looks to China for its renewable needs instead of the US.

“Is it too much to ask for compassion?”

After the last 4 years of outright support or silence for kids in cages, Muslim bans, Mexicans are rapists and murderers, cuts to CHIP and SNAP to help poor kids and their parents ... suddenly you guys want compassion?

I guess  I struggle to find my “compassion” for a few thousand construction workers to build a potential environmental disaster just for big oil, who posts multi-billion dollar quarterly  profits

Yeah, um, nope.  Time to let the adults run the country and move us forward with renewable energy and jobs, rather than this charade pretending big oil and the Middle East are somehow helpful to us.

Okay, asking for compassion for workers that lose their jobs and their families is a bridge too far.  Got it.  I shoulda known...

Biden’s pause on oil cause for big concern in New Mexico

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — President Joe Biden’s 60-day moratorium on new oil and natural gas leases and drilling permits is prompting widespread concerns in New Mexico, where spending on education and other public programs hinges on the industry’s success.
Top Republicans in the state as well as local leaders in communities that border the Permian Basin — one of the most productive regions in the U.S. — say any moves to make permanent the suspension would be economically devastating for the state. Half of New Mexico’s production happens on federal land and amounts to hundreds of millions of dollars in royalties each year.
Congressional members from other western states also are raising concerns, saying the ripple effects of the moratorium will hurt small businesses already struggling because of the pandemic.

“During his inauguration, President Biden spoke about bringing our nation together. Eliminating drilling on public lands will cost thousands of New Mexicans their jobs and destroy what’s left of our state’s economy,” Carlsbad Mayor Dale Janway told The Associated Press on Friday. “How does that bring us together? Environmental efforts should be fair and well-researched, not knee-jerk mandates that just hurt an already impoverished state.”

So.....Canadians and western US states are now nervous about us.

Thats a remarkable improvement in just a few days given before Biden took over the whole world and the entire country was nervous about "us" (for four years I must add).
If you calm down and not be keyboard, web link and conspiracy theory happy maybe we will calm the Canadians and Western US states. As they say, patience is a virtue.
Just a thought!

Biden XO on Keystone XL Directly  & Unlawfully Attacks Native Americans

https://www.kpvi.com/news/national_news/utah-native-american-tribe-asks-biden-administration-for-energy-lease-order-to-be-withdrawn-or/article_a9e5ba5e-bf6e-56c9-b41e-0129ff1ca667.html
"Luke Duncan, the tribe’s chairman, sent the letter on Thursday asking the DOI to amend its order “to provide an exception for energy permits and approvals on Indian lands.”“The Ute Indian Tribe and other energy producing tribes rely on energy development to fund our governments and provide services to our members,” said the letter, which was obtained by The Center Square."
Duncan, however, says in the letter that the order “is a direct attack on our economy, sovereignty, and our right to self-determination,” and alleges it violates the U.S.’ treaty with the tribe, which has 2,970 members.

“Indian lands are not federal public lands,” he added. “Any action on our lands and interests can only be taken after effective tribal consultation.”
“The Order must be withdrawn or amended to comply with Federal law and policies,” the letter said.
