If Mattison cuts right, he walks into the end zone -- absolutely.  But when you need such a short pick up, backs (particularly the "pound it" backs) are told never to turn their shoulders parallel to the LOS.  As much as I hated the outcome and wished he had made the cut, I can understand it.  If Ham goes lower and makes an effective block, its a first down as well, so plenty of "what ifs".

Genuinely interested in why Zimmer isn't to blame here. My frustration lies in the fact that the Vikes have lost 3 games this year where they led either at halftime or after the first quarter. I think since Zimmer arrived they have the best record or top 5 record when either is the case. The defense looked great in the first half, but once again they failed to be consistent and gave up 27 in the second half and a 94 yard gw drive too.

My frustration is Zimmer's inability to compete for 4 quarters vs good teams. We havent beat the packers in a while, same goes for the bears, and constantly look lost vs good teams (playoff game vs NO last year was fun). I'm tired of the same story, especially when the offense has been pretty damn good the last 3 games. I always was a Zimmer backer, but I can't do it this year. I know not having Pierce and Hunter sucks, but other teams have injuries and people backing out too.

I don't think firing Zimmer right now is the best decision, but if we continue down this path all season long then I am open to exploring another solution.

Because Zimmer didn't throw the INT or fumble the ball in the pocket, leading to two scores for Seattle which turned the tide. And as previously mentioned, if Mattison gets that 1 yard, game over. Or if Dantzer doesn't lose track of the ball on the sidelines on that last drive, maybe that seals the game. My point is find me something to truly blame Zimmer for losing this game. Hell, most people thought the defense would get run off the field all game long, but he and the staff had a great game-plan and it almost led to a win.

I get the fact that people are frustrated, but sometimes it really is something like a bounce of the ball that determines the outcome of a game and not X's and O's. 

Well yeah, players make all of the plays, but these aren't new issues. It's always something. I get where you're going, but at some point in time you have to think of how many times we have experienced these types of things in the last 6 years. Boneheaded plays and turnovers seem to be a more common theme the last two years.

It's so sad when you're up 5 with two minutes to play and you know Seattle is coming down to score and win the game. It was the same thing vs the Titans and the Chiefs last year. My confidence in Zimmer's defense is just no longer there, no matter how you look at it.

And I get what you're saying, I really do...but I just don't agree that this came down to coaching failure, at least not most of it. If there's anything that I'll gripe about regarding the coaches, it was that stupid call to run Cousins up the middle on the two point conversion. That had me shaking my head to the point of whiplash. Asides from that.....the defense played great for a good portion of the game. It's been a talking point on here since the start of the season that the defense would be pretty bad all year long, and that if the young players showed improvement as the season progresses then that would be a bright spot. And the offense played a well rounded game for the most part, asides from the early second half turnovers that swung momentum to Seattle.

Different strokes for different folks, but I still trust Zimmer. Cousins on the other hand....

Zimmers defense aint anywhere near what it used to be. My goodness, look at the line-up last night. 

Frankly, they played as well as that level of athletes can be expected, damn near anyways. That's a B line-up if I ever saw one sans YN, Kendricks and the S's. Shout out to Wilson the line-backer last night too. 

Zimmer made the call at the end of the game I would not have. It cost him the game. That staff is either dumb, outsmarts themselves or snake bit at the biggest moments over the years.

I'm finie with zimmie. Not just because of last night, but the whole body of work and decision making over the 7 years. 2 playoff wins in 7 years, meh. 

Keeping him this year was a no brainer. But the time is coming quickly for a new staff, qb and system.

You know what? You're absolutely right. If only I can harken back to the memories of Mike Tice, or those of Brad Childress, hell, even Leslie Frazier to make me realize how good we had it so that we can finally get rid of this 7 year dumpster fire...oh wait. 

That fair weather you're enjoying must be really good for the mind and soul. 

On a more serious note, my only gripe is the inability for this franchise to find a true franchise QB, cuz Kirk ain't it.

It ain't great, that's for sure. but the teams the Vikings have lost to are 16-2 combined. Just sayin'. But 'smoking wreckage' is saved for teams like the Jets.

Exactly. 1-4 sucks, but this ain't the dumpster fire some think it is. At least not yet. The team is still playing hard, the young guys look to be improving, and they almost pulled out a couple of wins vs two undefeated teams. Hopefully a win this week and the bye help get the team back on a winning track.

The Vikings are so, so close to having a three game winning streak.  It's just not in the cards this year.  If they're going to suffer growing pains with a young team, this is the year to do it.
