Schefty: Dalvin Will Hold Out Without a "Reasonable" Deal

Depends what "reasonable" is.  I'm feeling good at keeping him at $8.5M.  Anything above $10M I'm repulsed about.
$8.5 isn't reasonable, it's ridiculous. That's Kenyan Drake money. Cook will get just under what the top backs are making. If I had to guess, I'd say $13.

Vikings are going to want to wait on this though..at least until we see what attendance looks like. With potential lost revenue, people are saying that the cap could go down as much as $40M in 2021.

With a new CBA coming, if Dalvin were to sit out this year he would be a RFA in the next offseason, which basically means he doesnt have a whole lot of leverage here. From what I have seen, he will likely settle in the $13-$14 million per year range. How do I feel about that? Not good when I think about his injury history. If healthy, that's a great deal for who I think is the second back running back in the NFL.
Personally, I would love to see a $10 million per year deal that is loaded with incentives. This won't happen because he's worth more than that, but that's just how I feel.

Timing is spot on from Dalvin and his agent. $$ should be in that $12mm + range...

Been preaching all along they are going to sign Cook and it will be an amount that will make some fans "uncomfortable"

The one big fly in the ointment is the cap as MB points out. The calculus can change without fans in the stands.

Poor, poor owners. Anyone else been reading about how the rich have gotten sooooo much richer during the PAndemic?

Of course it is main street small business that is being destroyed while the chains and corporations reaping the benefits.  How many small business owners have a 401K or company match Smile

The money shift up the chain of command is unreal.  We are going to be a country run by corporations if we aren't already.  Capitalism is the best economic system the world has ever seen but you can have too much of a good thing.  Unchecked capitalism will result in where we are trending where corporations are people and will own people not the other way around.

Rant over...back to Cook.  Do you think we could just give him a bump this year and work out something next season.  I want to see him have another full productive season before we are talking 12+.

If they're really $5M/yr apart this is not getting resolved any time soon.

Yep. I love when fans start quoting 'reasonable' contract numbers: there's no such thing. Its market value. David Johnson got a stupid contract and expect Cook to get somewhere over $12M a year for sure. It is what it is.

Reasonable is different depending on who you are.  $8.5M would be the 6th highest RB
in the league.  $13M is tied for the 4th
highest RB in league.  The Vikings would
be dumb to pay him that amount of money, even if someone else would.  Dalvin Cook has had one good year out of
3.  In his one good year, he’s the 6th
best RB in terms of yards from scrimmage.
7th best in terms of TDs.
Is anyone confident that he’ll be able to stay healthy enough to
consistently be at top of the stats?

WHERE the contract ranks doesn't tell you as much as WHEN it was written. Those contracts in that 6-10 range are about to expire. The ones in the 12 to 16 range were recently written. That's where Dalvin will be. And should be.

Predictable. I really thought the Vikings should have picked another RB, maybe as early as round 4, to show Cook and his agent that they are planning on having a number of options at the position.
