Live Look In On The Draft Test Run

immunity tests are being rolled out right now.  they will be allowed to play, coach etc as long as there is immunity detected I would assume.   I dont have all the answers,  just that we wont be able to stay hidden away for another year or however long it takes to come up with a virus.   people will need to go back to work soon and risks will have to be taken.   I dont think we can go back to business as usual,  but life will have to start to return soon or its going to get a lot uglier in terms of hording of food and other shit.

i talked to a buddy yesterday who owns a small sausage company, he uses a shit ton of ground pork and is basically dead in the water until some new processing facilities start up or until the giants get back on line... well as it turns out hutterite colonies have commercial processing facilities for their own needs and are getting certified to start up small scale commercial hog slaughtering on their colonies... one by itself wont fix the issue,  but if 10 or 20 do it,  we are back to the same production in our state without having to have 2000 people packed into one location.   lots of industries and businesses will need to modify their models to remain viable.  this virus could actually be the step back that our country needs to put more people back to work and to move the population base away from the urban centers.

I think we have to remain patient
and let this run its course.  The timetable is how quickly this world knows
how to control and safely rid itself of this pandemic.  If masses of
people get restless, careless and irresponsibly start thinking they can gather
and go around as "normal", they just put the safe people (especially care givers) in jeopardy
again and it drags out.

I heard restaurants might open soon
in some states.  I immediately think "Who would be stupid enough to
go in there and eat?"

things have to reopen,  maybe not the same as we used to be,  but the curve has been flattened and that was the point of the shut down.  it was never the intent to keep the country locked at home until a cure or antivirus is discovered,  the goal of the shut down was to slow the spread to where local health facilities were able to handle the cases as they developed.  there will still be micro outbreaks,  but we now have limited herd immunity in areas,  and a better understanding of the virus and how quickly they will need to react to new cases popping up.   if they tried to keep the country shut down for up to another year or even just 6 months we would be ruined.  as it is our debt from this thing is staggering and wait until the full economic panic hits when all these companies start showing how bad they really got hit.   I dont know that we have seen the full wave of economic panic yet.   The country needs to try and find a new normal,  even if it is only for a year or two.  there needs to be a happy medium between life right now and life 3 months ago.

EDIT:   and by the way, I know your fears for your son.  My daughter and her husband are RNs and they have been working directly with Covid patients since they were first discovered in SD.  I have more immediate family members that are RNs or work in the health care field as well.  I can fully appreciate your concerns for your family's safety.

I agree with Jimmy on this.  I work in the Health Care Industry, not on the front lines but supporting them.  I totally get the severity of this virus but like Jimmy said we can't just keep everything shut down for a year or whatever it takes to come up with a vaccine.  Not only would the US economy collapse but there's a good chance the entire world's economic structure would collapse.  There has to some sort of balance, like Jimmy said between the end of 2019 and now.

Jimmy, you have no way of knowing
about "Herd Immunity" until everyone is tested.  Yeah, everyone
that's immune should be able to continue on with their lives as usual, but we
have no clue who's immune or not.  Now there's evidence that those that
have had COVID-19 are getting tested positive again.  They are either gettting sick again, or spreading it to others.

Ok, a governor says "Let's open!".
A restaurant/bar with 25 employees opens but only 5 employees are willing to go
into work unprotected just to be a "good American" and help "the economy".  Are
the other 20 fired because they don't want to spread around the virus with reckless
abandon?

This is serious, and placing
timetables on when it's safe based on the economy is only going to make things
worse.  These "minor flare-ups"  could be just as bad as it
is now, and cost the US another 10, 20, or maybe 50 thousand more lives.

Like me, you're just guessing, Jimmy, and my guess
is way safer.  People can't gather until we know who's immune or not.

That includes athletes playing professional sports, I would assume.

herd immunity is a real thing,  to what extent they are still learning.  immunity tests are being done already with more wide scale testing being planned and developed  it will work on the law of averages,  if they sample a random selection of an area and come back with 70% showing immunity,  they can then say that 65-75% of that area would be the same and it would be safe to loosen the reigns.

as far as people getting it again,  they dont know if they got the tests right in the begining,  there are false negatives and false positives,   more information is needed for sure.

as far as who works and who doesnt... thats not my call,  but I do know that as a country we can afford to pay everybody for a year to not go to work.   the economics are just not doable.  so yes if people dont want to go to work they wouldnt get paid,  they can stay on unemployment until that runs out but an indefinite stay at home for the whole country is not going to happen.

i know how serious it is,  look back at the timeline of this virus,  i was one of the first on the board to start raising an alarm and pushing the facts of the virus,   but there is also an over reaction and just like everything else that kills people,  there will always be an acceptable loss number.  we all fly on airlines,  knowing one could crash,  we all drive in cars,  knowing one could crash  we all do a lot of shit daily that could end our lives,  but we do it because the odds say that it wont happen.

people will start to gather again,  in controlled numbers and situations,  this will be the new norm,  and there will be micro out breaks,  not unlike any other virus that we have dealt with for our whole lives.    this is a super flu.. what extended precautions have been taken in the past despite local outbreaks.  I am not saying its life as usual,  but we need to start to try and find a safe new norm because staying home isnt sustainable or realistic.

and yes,  athletes will gather as well,  if they want to get paid.   I would guess a pro athlete in their prime takes greater risks in their social lives than what they would see being exposed to covid in their 20s.

You and I don't agree, Jimmy.  Von Miller has COVID-19 and here's what he says:
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- Denver Broncos linebacker Von Miller, who is now quarantined in his Denver-area home after testing positive for the coronavirus, said Friday that he's "proof anybody can get it."
Miller,
an eight-time Pro Bowl selection, told ESPN's NFL Live on Friday that
he had tried to take every precaution over the past month, but he still
contracted the virus.
"What
keeps me at peace is knowing I did everything I was supposed to do,"
said Miller, who announced Thursday he had tested positive and is now
resting at home. "I was here at home. I've been here at home for about a
month now, and I've probably left the house a total of four times. And
when I left, I didn't get out of the car or anything like that.
"I
didn't have any contact. I was just riding with my brother up the
street to get some food. I literally took it serious, I wasn't out and
about. It hit me right here in my house."
Editor's Picks Miller,
who has asthma, said Friday he elected to get tested after he had
started to have a cough about six days ago and his inhaler "wasn't
working like it normally should."
"It's very, very serious,"
Miller added. "It's my job to keep my body in tiptop shape, and I feel
my body is in tiptop shape. If I can get this, anybody can get this."
Miller said he had limited contact with teammates over the past few weeks. He said Broncos kicker Brandon McManus,
who is his closest friend on the team, had visited "about 15 days ago"
and that just a few people had been to his house, including a plumber
and somebody who serviced his fish tanks.
"It's not like a movie
where you can say, 'OK, got it from this guy,'" Miller said. "It's just
too many different factors. ... We tried to keep the bodies low and keep
everything down."
Miller had spent time training in the San
Francisco area immediately following the season, but he returned to
Colorado shortly before the stay-at-home order in the Bay Area went into
effect March 16.
Miller
isn't sure when the NFL should consider letting teams get back to work
in their facilities, let alone resume playing games.
"Whatever is
safe. ... My vote is to do whatever is safe," Miller said. "This is a
very, very serious disease. And I have all the resources here for me, I
have a team physician right down the street. I'm fortunate to have
somebody that can go get groceries. I was fortunate to have attention.
There's so many other people out there, that's not the case for them.
This is a very, very serious disease, and I feel like everybody should
take it serious.
"... We've got a lot of intelligent minds on this
thing. I feel like we should all just do whatever is safe, take the
safest step possible. People want sports and people want to be safe.
There's got to be some merger. It's 2020, there's got to be something we
can work out."

well i guess if a mega millionaire athlete is willing to stay home in his mansion,  everyone everywhere should be ok with it?

he even closes with there has to be some merger of wants vs needs.  this country needs an economic push,  and staying at home isnt going to deliver that push.  a slow reopening of the country needs to be attempted where it is most safe,  and adding from there.  it will be a challenge,  but it will work if people dont give up on the social distancing and other precautions.  I say follow the small group thing and shit like that,  but a lot of the country needs to be allowed to start going back to work.
