I'm not sure that I agree with his upside being higher than Madubuike. They both ran basically a 4.8 (Gallimore was a couple hundredths faster), but Madubuike blew him away in the 3-cone drill. That quickness shows up on tape too... and when you add in the fact that Madubuike has longer arms, I think the physical traits project more upside than Gallimore.
That said, what matters most is what the guy is made of inside... and Gallimore reportedly is a blue collar guy with a strong work ethic. If the Vikings address CB, WR, and OL with their early picks, he could be a good pick in the 3rd round. Patterson worked wonders with a raw, athletic prospect that loved to work in Danielle Hunter. He went later in the 3rd round as well. Maybe he can do the same with Gallimore? Bottom line, I wouldn't pay a premium pick to find out. If he's there late Day 2, sure... go for it.
Not just work ethic, but motor. He's relentless. Always. IMO, Gallimore's motor is best in class. Ahead of even Kinlaw. Way ahead of Brown.
I am having flashbacks to 2014, Maroon. That was the class we went back and forth on Aaron Donald. You saw it, I didn't. Don't let Gallimore be the second coming of that. I just don't see it with him.

Ha! My belief in Gallimore is light years away from my belief in Donald. I've been arm-chair scouting the draft for 40 years and there's never been a player I was more convinced about.
One thing I've learned over that time is that there are traits that translate well to the NFL and traits that are overrated (see WR speed vs. separation vs. route running). What I like about Gallimore is his decent first step, combined with very good speed and athleticism, combined with outstanding motor. That's going to serve him well in the NFL. Another thing I like is that he was fairly limited in OU's defense, playing mostly 1T in 3-man fronts, so he was getting doubled a lot and still found success Put him at 3T in a 4-man front and he should be even better.
He needs coaching on technique, plays too high. But those are fixable problems. And we have a pretty good DL coach. So while Blacklock and Madu might be better players early on, I think the one we'll be talking about down the road is Gallimore.
Still, like I said, he's no AD. That year I said that I would've taken Donald with the 1st overall pick. I'm not even sure I like Gallimore in the 1st round. Trade 25 down a bit and I like the value better.
Man, I know I am being selfish, but taking a DE like Matos and one of these DT in the first (Blacklock, Mabiduke, Gallimore) would be awesome.
I believe there are two things that keep you in every game, a favorite and winner in most. A premier QB and a premier DL. A premier DL in today’s NFL is the great equalizer. It prevents great WR’s from having great games, makes good DB’s look great, can shut down a run game.
I like what we have now but we could be a contender with a return to DL dominance. Hunter, Fedi, Matos is a nice 3 DE rotation. Pierce, Blacklock, with a couple of hungry guys behind it (Johnson, Holmes, Watts, Hercules).
With Hunter you have one of the league’s best DE’s, with Pierce you might have the best run stuffing DT, throw in some talented rookies with Patterson, could be dominant
Building up either line is always a winner in my book...awesome skill players and average lines won't work...awesome lines and average skill guys, I like my chances...
Calling Pierce the best run-stuffer in the League is a massive reach. He's not even at the level Linval was when he first signed with the Vikings. He's a clear upgrade from where Joseph was the last 2 years but let's not go overboard with the hype.
The #Vikings are one of nine teams scheduled to have a virtual pre-draft visit with Texas A&M DT Justin Madubuike, per Aaron Wilson.
Not many have us taking an edge defender in the 1st round. Me either. But I have run a few mocks where the best player on the board is K'Lavon Chaisson. Curious if the Vikings might consider that. Some are higher on Chaisson than others. PFF has him in the 40s, and says this about him: "Chaisson is a classic case of tools vs. production. All the skills are there for him to dominate as a pass-rusher, but why hasn't he?"
Could've been said about another LSU edge rusher we took a few years ago.
