India locks down 1.3 billion citizens...Quote:Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has ordered a 21-day nationwide lockdown starting at midnight Wednesday.
"You have seen the worldwide situations arising from the coronavirus pandemic in the news. You have also seen how the most powerful nations have become helpless in the face of this pandemic. It’s not that these nations aren’t making efforts or face a lack of resources. But the coronavirus is spreading so rapidly that despite all these efforts, the challenge is increasing. The result of a two-month study of these countries and what the experts are saying is that social distancing is the only option to combat coronavirus. That is to remain apart from each other and stay confined to within your homes. There is no other way to remain safe from coronavirus. If we have to stop the spread, we have to break the cycle of infection."
"I request you to remain wherever you are in this country. In view of the current situation, the lockdown shall be enforced for 21 days, which means the next 21 days are crucial for us,” Modi continued.

He said that new infections are "doubling about every three days," which he called a "dramatic increase in the rate of infections."
On the rate of infections in the state, Cuomo said, "We're not slowing it, and it is accelerating on its own."
He said that, based on what experts are telling him, the new projection for hospital capacity is "as high as 140,000" hospital beds in the state to treat cases.

Kyle Rudolph, Adam Thielen, Anthony Barr among Vikings helping during COVID-19 outbreak
As people across the U.S. and Minnesota grapple with the economic effects of the coronavirus outbreak, several Vikings players are working through their foundations and charitable partners to help out.
Tight end Kyle Rudolph and his wife Jordan donated $25,000 to Second Harvest Heartland on Monday, to provide 82,000 meals for families in the Twin Cities and kick off a Virtual Food and Fund Drive. Rudolph, the Vikings’ nominee for the NFL’s Walter Payton Man of the Year Award each of the past three seasons, hopes to raise $200,000 through the fundraising drive.
Wide receiver Adam Thielen and his wife Caitlin have also donated $25,000 to Second Harvest Heartland through their charitable foundation to provide meals for Twin Cities families.
Vikings linebacker Anthony Barr is offering $500 emergency grants to current and former scholarship recipients through his Raise The Barr Foundation, which works to help single mothers finish post-secondary education. Through the first weekend Barr’s foundation offered the program, it had approved 34 grants for a total of $17,000, and Barr posted on Instagram over the weekend that all applications through the program would be approved for the one-time grant.
Former Vikings linebacker Chad Greenway with The Sheridan Story on a hunger relief campaign for students on free and reduced lunch at schools in the Twin Cities and western Wisconsin. Greenway and his wife Jenni donated $10,000 to their Lead the Way Foundation as part of the campaign.

Trump, during Fox News coronavirus townhall, calls for re-opening economy by Easter: ‘We have to get back to work’
President Trump said Tuesday during a Fox News virtual townhall that he wants the country’s economy re-opened by Easter amid questions over how long people should stay home and businesses should remain closed to slow the spread of coronavirus.
Speaking from the Rose Garden alongside others on his coronavirus taskforce, Trump said he "would love to have the country opened up and just raring to go by Easter." The holiday this year lands on April 12.
Trump also reiterated his argument that he doesn’t want “to turn the country off” and to see a continued economic downfall from the pandemic.
"We lose thousands and thousands of people a year to the flu. We don't turn the country off,” Trump said during the interview.
Trump added: “We lose much more than that to automobile accidents. We don't call up the automobile companies and say stop making cars. We have to get back to work.”
The president's prediction that the U.S. economy would be up-and-running by Easter, however, was tempered by comments earlier in the day by top officials at the Pentagon who predicted the COVID-19 outbreak could last anywhere from 10 weeks to three months.
During a coronavirus town hall with U.S. forces around the world, Defense Secretary Mark Esper estimated it could take up to 10 weeks, and the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Army Gen. Mark Milley went a little further saying he expected the military to be dealing with the virus for the next three months.
Trump's enthusiasm for getting people back to work also comes as he takes stock of the political toll the outbreak is taking. It sets up a potential conflict with medical professionals, including many within his government, who have called for more social restrictions to slow the spread of the virus, not fewer.
Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s leading expert on infectious diseases and a member of the White House’s coronavirus task force, told WMAL on Tuesday that Trump has always heeded his recommendations.
“The president has listened to what I have said and to what the other people on the task force have said when I have made recommendations he has taken them. He's never countered or overridden me, the idea of just pitting one against the other is just not helpful,” Fauci said.

New York governor: "We’re not going to put a dollar figure on a human life"From CNN's Adrienne Vogt
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo pushed back against comments by President Trump that he could reopen the US economy while keeping an eye on some of the most at-risk populations, including seniors.
“My mother is not expendable. And your mother is not expendable. And our brothers and sisters are not expendable,” Cuomo said. “And we're not going to accept a premise that human life is disposable. And we're not going to put a dollar figure on human life.”
Cuomo said saving lives is most important, but there can be an “intelligent” strategy for getting people back to work.

Agreed, a fact based ray of hope is certainly welcome even as we ramp-up to peak carnage in this country.
thats a double edged sword, those that are taking it seriously, absolutely need to know that there is light at the end of the tunnel.... to those that are going on with their lives like nothing is happening they will read that and find confirmation that this is nothing more than the common flu and will be even less likely to conform to social distancing and other precaution activities. Our 2 small town bars are still doing a bustling business and will likely get busier since the larger town 20 minutes away just shut down their bars and restaurants.
Well the truth is you will not find any good news watching the media at this time (or hardly ever). You have to find it on page 12 not page 1, always the worst case scenarios doom and gloom. Article never suggested not taking it seriously. I would say the majority have in this time of panic.
