They changed the school logo and now it looks like Native American Elvis. Us alums hate it.

MARLON DAVIDSON, DT, AUBURNThe first thing I do when studying a prospect is look up details about their background, take a look at their production and then see what their measurables are. Marlon Davidson is 6-foot-3 and 297 pounds with 32.875-inch arms. Cool, a defensive tackle ... right? Sometimes, but most of his reps came as a standup 3-4 outside linebacker. I was surprised to say the least when I fired up that Oregon game in Week 1, and subsequent games, and continued to see him play in that role.
Obviously, Davidson is miscast as a 3-4 outside linebacker, but I am excited about what he can do as a penetration-style 3-technique in the NFL. Davidson brings a rapid first step, heavy hands, a hot motor and low pads that translate wonderfully to that role. Davidson was a four-year starter at Auburn, that improved every year, but the spotlight was stolen by Derrick Brown. Don’t sleep on Davidson as a versatile defensive lineman that can play a variety of techniques and make an impact at the next level.

For the real draft guys here that study more with smaller colleges than my power 5 teams lol. Is there a legit 3T that is flying under the radar, and is there a legit chance that we will have a good option in the first round come April?

NFL.com's Lance Zierlein compared TCU DT Ross Blacklock to New York Giants DT B.J. Hill."[Blacklock is] a hit-or-miss run defender," Zierlein writes, "but he's a relentless pass rusher with elite lateral quickness and change of direction to exploit interior galoots and open pathways to the pocket." The analyst notes that the 6-foot-4, 305-pound TCU defender possesses "menacing disruptive qualities as a gap seeker" but would like to improvements on the fronts of technique and hand usage, observing that Blacklock can be "inconsistent holding the point and keeping his feet." Blacklock could potentially push for a late Day 1 selection later this spring, depending on how the rest of the process plays out. SOURCE: NFL.com

This exactly the kind of 3T that will be available at 25. Upside is huge, so is the risk. Elliott. Madubuike. Blacklock. Gallimore (he's an NT BTW), Davidson. All have warts and fairly significant bust potential.
I'd rather trade back and grab one of these guys with an early 2nd and use the additional 2nd on LG or CB. At 25 I want more of a sure thing. |
