How High Could Kinlaw Go?
#1
ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr. believes that a strong week of Senior Bowl practices could be enough to secure a top-15 selection for South Carolina DT Javon Kinlaw."With a massive 6-foot-6 frame and excellent athleticism, teams are going to love Kinlaw's potential," Kiper writes. Not only does he believe that a stellar week in Mobile could lock in a top-15 selection for the South Carolina standout, he believes that Kinlaw could potentially push Auburn's Derrick Brown for DT1 come April. All of this talk is lofty, lofty, lofty, but Kinlaw's blend of explosive upside is intoxicating.

Yeah, I'm just now starting to look at these guys, but after a couple of days of review, Kinlaw strikes me as that player we'll laugh about about in April: "Remember when some of the earlier mocks had him dropping to 25?"

South Carolina DT Javon Kinlaw said people told him he didn’t need to go the Senior Bowl, but he stressed the importance of competition as his main reason for playing in Mobile this week

Javon Kinlaw on battling homelessness:

“We had to use boiled water to take showers growing up and the water spigot just to drink.” On free food at JUCO, “I didn’t eat the first two days, until I found out it was free. Then I couldn’t stop after that.”

He was terrific.

I see Chris Jones 2.0 here. Call me crazy but this kid profiles as a monster if he can learn to play with little lower pad level. Shoot. He can probably stand up as a 3T instead of putting his hand in the dirt and still cause nightmares. Armstead might be his floor comparison.

For me Young, Burrows, Simmons and Kinlaw are virtually guaranteed Blue Chip performers in the NFL. And there's probably 3 WRs who could end up as Top 10 Receivers in the League sooner than later. Some really nice Tackles too.

DE/Edge guys and CBs have nice players. The CB Class is definitely deep. But Okuda doesn't blow me away. Much prefer a 3rd Round CB as I don't see those guys being all that big of a dropoff from the earlier round kids this year. Feel the same about OG. There are some potential answers at 3T in the 2nd and 3rd.

But at the end of the day I truly believe Kinlaw helps the entire team more than any other pick besides Joe or Tua.

He made a few nice plays, but was a non-factor on (way) too many, imo.
Motor?  (might have been hot/humid that afternoon)

Wasn't Jaylen Holmes supposed to be our project 3T? Whatever happened with that. It seems as though he was always in the dog house.

just watched DT Derrick Brown (Auburn) vs Bama for comparison.
Brown looked no better than Kinlaw.

Watching both projected first round DT's (Kinlaw & Brown) makes me want
OG Deonte Brown (65 Bama).  He stoned both DT's for most of both games.
