Could The Vikings Trade Diggs This Offseason?
#51
Now, I'm not 100% fluent in Twitter speak, but it looks like he's praying to be back in the Maryland area.

I'm wondering how his teammates feel about his constant passive aggressive tweets? Or the front office? Anyone think this is somehow beneficial for the team?
Every single team in every single League has a player who over-tweets. You consistently make way more out of this than Players do. It's honestly a generational thing. I recruit millennials and it took me a long time to realize that they're completely comfortable living their entire lives online. And they're just fine with the overly dramatic poster. It's almost a trope or cliche that they have someone filling that role in their 'groupthink' pods.

I agree with everything you say here. But.....I still think Diggs would like out of Minnesota.

we've heard from those with "inside" sources say that Diggs has asked out of Minnesota for better endorsement opportunities among other things.  I dont think he has acted/tweeted like a player that is happy with his location.   He could have shut down that rhetoric right away last fall but he let it roll for a week or two and continues to let it fester with his cryptic tweets.  If he was happy in Minny and wanted to stay in Minny,  he would just come out and say as much every time somebody asks him,  but he doesnt.

Khalil, Elf and Bradburry... all OL first round picks and only one of them have worked out (so far). Yeah let's trade a known and proven player and get picks... create a need at WR. Then use the two picks (we may get) to draft an OL player and hope he works out and also use the "other" pick to draft another WR to hopefully fill the void created by trading Diggs. Arent we a few years removed from trying to find WR 3? Let's start all over after all Bisi can become WR 2
Only one of them worked out (so far) not because they were bad picks but because of injuries. Kalil was very good his first 1.5 years. Was a pro bowler and all rookie team in year one. Then he had the knee injury which caused the hip to overcompensate and ultimately needed surgery. Elf also all rookie team and quite good that first year until injuries derailed him. So I dont think you can use those as an example of why not to draft line early.

He can want out but at the end of the day he really can't do much about it. Everyone wants to play for their home team. That also doesn't mean he dislikes it in MN.

Diggs is full of himself. That's a good thing. He's smart enough to realize his career is short and ticking away. I suspect he feels like he could get better stats and more money elsewhere. In effect he is wasting away in Minnesota. That may be the genesis of his cryptic tweets. He doesn't seem to complain much when confronted face to face though.
Given his contract, I doubt he goes anywhere unless a team wants to make a ridiculous offer for him.

Was listening to a Vikings podcast on my commute. Apparently, the "business is business" tweet was part of a thread about Darius Slay. I would imagine, like the rest of us, there's more to his life than his job.

Is it possible that a team will see his talent v. contract as a steal and make the Vikings an offer they can't refuse. Yes, but it would have to be an emormous offer for the Vikings to bite. First of all, it saves the Vikings only $5M. You can find that much in the couch cushions. So it's not about savings. Second, the dead cap that the Vikings would immediately swallow is $9M, meaning the Vikings would be paying $9M for Diggs to play for someone else.

If there's one thing you can say about this team it's that they like to operate as financial efficient as possible. Dead money is a pariah to Rick and Rob. ...and for what it's worth, this is also why restructuring rather than releasing players like Reiff and Rhodes is very possible.

MB, please tell me where to find a couch like that. Finding 5 million dollars in the couch cushions would be awesome!  Wink
