Would just like to add that I hate this thread title with a passion and the damn thread never seems to fall down on the front page, let alone drift quietly out to sea onto page 2.

Curse you all!  Wink

Every single time someone is spreading misinfo about covid and the vaccines it seems to start with “I googled…”

Do you honestly believe that your googling skills supplant the billions of dollars of research and departments dedicating researching viruses and vaccines? Honestly.

Also I have a duty as the admin of this site to keep dangerous misonformation from being spread. I will use my admin privleges to do so.

Please keep your googling research to yourself as it pertains to the current pandemic that we are under.

Thanks.
so your googling SCIENCE trumps everyone else since you hold the keys.  Sounds pretty normal in 2021.

I long for the days when science didn't mean doing what the politicians told us to do.

If you count googling "cdc.gov corona virus" then yes.  That google search trumps everyone else's googling university certificate.

how about misinformation being spread by anybody will be taken down immediately?  regardless of what side they support?  the pro vaccine people speading unsubstantiated scare stories are just as harmful as those speading the opposite.  Or maybe we just ban all covid related discussion all together since neither side to any of the debates has proven to be beyond question and strictly following the science and numbers?

I would offer that anything posted on Covid (since this is a matter of pulic health)  needs to have a source  attached to it (an  actual working link, and not behind a pay wall ) or it will be removed.  This is a site for adults and as such they should be able for themselves to substantiate a source and determine for themselves if they want to trust it or not.

Maybe we could create a separate Dante' board for this info.

Jimmy, how bout this for honest discussion.  I've been quite outspoken about getting vaccinated, but here are the numbers and I've tried to be as objective as possible with them.  Feel free to correct me from both sides but lets agree to use the Minnesota health department data instead of some website's numbers that we've never heard of.

It doesn't copy worth a darn but the state of MN shares a bunch of data.  One thing I dislike is in the first link they talk about significantly lower numbers then what they should be using in my humble opinion.  They quote a .0002% death rate for vaccinated but that compares deaths to all vaccinated, not deaths to break through cases.

https://www.health.state.mn.us/diseases/...ation.html

State of MN numbers only:

Hospitalization rate overall:  5.42%  (covid hospitalizations/covid cases)
Hospitalization rate vaccinated:  8.14% (break through hospitalizations/break through cases)

Death Rate:  1.16%  (adds in vaccinated cases and vaccinated deaths so this is artificially lower then it should be)
Death Rate vaccinated:  .83% of cases

Whats interesting is it seems if you're vaccinated you actually have a higher chance of needing medical care right now (though its early and more data will help see if thats an anomaly).  What I don't see and would be fascinated to find would be its spread rate in a given month or week or whatever.  To what extent are you likely to contract covid19 if you are or are not vaccinated.
It seems quite clear that you lower your odds of death quite dramatically. If you like the .0002% number and want use it as your augments basis, I think you should be comparing total Minnesotan to total Minnesotan covid deaths which yields: .137% death
rate.  So the apples to apples numbers would be a death rate of .137% unvaccinated or .002% vaccinated death rate.  But if you want to throw a monkey wrench in those numbers you could simply argue covid killed the "easy people" first before a vaccine was available.

thats the problem with all this for me,  i can find responsible sites ( well respected ivy league universities ) various states departments of health, etc,  but they all dont use the same criteria and reporting methods so the numbers are all over the place and in some cases contradicting to another respected source.

thats why IMO the best way to handle all of this in regards to public safety is to make a concise point if you want to and a verifiable link to substantiate that point.   as far as setting a benchmark site that all will agree is giving unbiased information... I doubt that is going to happen.

I used MN health because if you're not going to "trust" their numbers where else to you intend to get numbers lol?  I mean they are the data collection point.

Short of someone just outright dismissing MN Health I'd like to hear a case for vaccinated vs unvaccinated using their statistics.  I even pointed out some pitfalls in their data.  Our family very much has our ear to the ground on this whole vaccination thing because we have so many immune-compromised people on our farm and the bulk of my and my wife's clients are seniors.
