Mail-sorting machines used by the United States Postal Service (USPS) have been dismantled and removed from distribution centers around the country, according to postal workers. They told Motherboard that at least 19 machines were removed without explanation. An internal USPS letter from June included a plan to remove hundreds of more mail-sorting machines this year.

Postal Workers Union members and some Democratic politicians have expressed concerns about changes to the USPS under Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, a major Trump donor who started his position this summer. President Trump has attacked the USPS and claimed that voting by mail has a high rate of fraud, without evidence.
The USPS has more eyes on it than ever with continued mail-in voting forced by the COVID-19 pandemic. Here's how the sorting machines being removed from distribution centers work.
The machines removed from USPS distribution facilities were delivery barcode sorters (DBCS).

Putin is laughing his ass off right now as Trump is dismantling our democracy and turning us into a banana republic.
And here I was thinking the “quote button” was self explanatory that my reply was to skodin who seemed to think us rural floks would somehow fall off the map without daily postal services.

As for all this post office bullshit. The PO delivers 472 million pieces of mail daily. There will be in the neighborhood of 130 million votes cast in the 2020 election. Then reduce that figure by all of the people who will vote in person. To think the PO couldnt handle every mailed ballot is ridiculous.

This is nothing but a PR move by the post office to secure more funding that theyve been asking for since January.

And the delays for the mail are a PR stunt?
Seniors and veterans not getting critical medication on time is a PR stunt?
Removing crucial mail-sorting equipment  to deliberately cause further delays is a PR stunt?
Hiring freezes, not allowing OT to help them get caught up is a PR stunt?

Oh it is a stunt alright, from a fucking corrupt administration hellbent on fucking up yet another US institution just to sabotage the election in their favor and HE EVEN ADMITTED IT ON NATIONAL TELEVISION.

Go sell crazy elsewhere, blame falls squarely on Trump and his new lapdog postmaster general.

Is there a scenario where you don’t make excuses for this asshole?  Blaming the post office for problems Trump admitted to is fucking looney tunes.

It's pretty convenient that in the almost four years he has been president, the Trump administration never thought of addressing the post office issue till now. And it's just happens to be a coincidence. The weird thing is, no one is disputing the fact that the post office needs help/reform. The question is why are we doing it now when there is an election plus the pandemic given the fact that all the proposed "reforms" do nothing other than slow down the mail system at a time when we need it the most?

Amazing, the rural country rubes are for dismantling a key resource for rural country rubes.  “Drain the swamp and respect American institutions, traditions” while allowing a swamp funding Amazon and UPs large stock owner to destroy one of America’s foundations of democracy.

Where do you find that rural people are for dismantling a USPS?  Are you familiar with rural America?  They have access to the internet, email, texting, FedEx, UPS and so forth.  Sure, the USPS delivers some mail but not like the old days.

Who set up the sweet deal with Amazon at discount rates for delivery?  Doesn't seem fair to give Amazon a discount over other businesses.

It’s so sad and obvious, some people in this county are afraid of everyone getting a chance to vote. Pu$$ies

Why not use the exiting absentee ballot for those who don't want to go to the polling location on election day?  There is a way for all people to vote, may take a modicum of effort but geez, adults should be able to handle it.
Rural America votes red

Rural Americans get hit the hardest when the post office is dismantled, including vets and tribes.  I saw that 20% of Americans pay their bills by mail, receive their medication.  15% of America (40 million Americans do not have broadband)

UPS and Amazon do not serve rural communities, and won’t if the post office disappears.  UPS going to go out of their own way and profit model to drop off medications to rural communities who are disabled citizens?  What about the Meds by Mail VA program?  For the poor Americans that the GOP loves, why force them to use a private and more expensive option?  For profit entities do not have an obligation to serve these people.

USPS is a service, not a business.  It serves Americans, a majority of our small businesses and our military, but hey to keep Trump as President, fuck them right?

Why now in the middle of the pandemic, there is only one reason that makes sense.  It will be "interesting" to see if there was any targeting of box and equipment removal, jeeze ya think.

I'll repeat my question: Where do you find that rural people are for dismantling a USPS?  Are you familiar with rural America?  I'd like to read there commentary.

UPS and FedeX deliver in small towns and even farms in Idaho. I see them on the road.  Don't know how it is where you live.  https://www.agriculture.com/news/business/ups-expanding-service-to-rural-areas#:~:text=UPS%20announced%20today%20that%20they,a%20UPS%20Access%20Point%20location.

Again, I’ll repeat.  Rural America votes red (2 out of 3 rural voters).  Rural america is supportive of Trump who for whatever reason now feels the need to dismantle the postal service.  Again, these are people who are being fooled voting against their own interest.  Rural America is going to get fucked big time if the post office falls apart.  Their medications won’t be delivered on time, their costs for basics will go up.

I just shared with you general population statistics of people who will be hurt by the removal of the post office.  Your anecdotal evidence doesn’t apply to millions of people as a whole.  Small businesses, VA members, prescription medication recipients all rely on the USPS, these are typically GOP voters, red voters, Trump voters.  Voting against their own interests.

When the private companies step in to pick up the slack in the end, who do you think will pay for it?  FedEx UPS and Amazon will eat the cost because they are true to American values?  Absolutely not.  You will pay for it, Americans will pay for it, the prices will go up and people will have to wonder, “why”

Speaking of why, why now? Hmm . . .

Obama committed over 12000 fascist acts on USPS, too.  But, of course, back then it was just called streamlining and routine maintenance.

Sorry for the Fox link....the rest of the MSM doesn't seem interested enough to report.  *shocker*

On a related note, have you ever read What's the Matter with Kansas? Probably the best political book I've ever read...and it's just as relevant today in helping us understand why so many God-fearing, heartland Americans can support the most immoral president this country has ever seen.

https://www.amazon.com/Whats-Matter-Kansas-Conservatives-America/dp/080507774XWiki: According to the book, the political discourse of recent decades has dramatically shifted from social and economic equality to the use of "explosive" cultural issues, such as abortion and gay marriage, which are used to redirect anger toward "liberal elites."
Against this backdrop, Frank describes the rise of political conservatism in the social and political landscape of Kansas, which he says espouses economic policies that do not benefit the majority of people in the state.
