Could The Vikings Trade Diggs This Offseason?

Was listening to a Vikings podcast on my commute. Apparently, the "business is business" tweet was part of a thread about Darius Slay. I would imagine, like the rest of us, there's more to his life than his job.

Is it possible that a team will see his talent v. contract as a steal and make the Vikings an offer they can't refuse. Yes, but it would have to be an emormous offer for the Vikings to bite. First of all, it saves the Vikings only $5M. You can find that much in the couch cushions. So it's not about savings. Second, the dead cap that the Vikings would immediately swallow is $9M, meaning the Vikings would be paying $9M for Diggs to play for someone else.

If there's one thing you can say about this team it's that they like to operate as financial efficient as possible. Dead money is a pariah to Rick and Rob. ...and for what it's worth, this is also why restructuring rather than releasing players like Reiff and Rhodes is very possible.
MB, please tell me where to find a couch like that. Finding 5 million dollars in the couch cushions would be awesome!  Wink
Well, it's an awfully big couch.

Of course the team eating that much signing bonus is part of what will make any trade offer more attractive than a guy with just 1 year left or a guy that is owed a monster number per year.  Some team would essentially be having to buy Vikings cap space with any offer they make.

"With all that said, if the Vikings don't push for more than a third-round pick — though a swap of day-three picks could be considered — and Diggs doesn't push for a renegotiated contract, I would seriously consider a trade."

Oh, you'd seriously consider it if all we wanted was a 3rd rounder. We'll get right on that. Dingbat.

Rick would be fired on the spot if he dealt Diggs for only a 3rd and had to eat that 9 million to boot.   That writer is a fantasy football fool.

I think even Diggs knows that a trade really isn't a real possibility until 2021when his dead money number is 6 mil. Even then, that is still a decent amount to swallow.

I dont think the dead money prevents him from being traded, it just ups the asking price a little bit.  draft picks have a monetary value IMO and if somebody wants Diggs they should be willing to make the offer cover the extra years of service under a cheaper contract that was created by that signing bonus.  if his contract was more per year money and less signing bonus you know that would negatively affect the offer so why shouldnt it be the opposite when its this way?

just offseason drama as usual ---no reason to even consider the trading of one of the dynamic duo.   Remember how easy it is to frustrate either him or thielen we the other isn't on the field.

Ya don't extend talented WRs only to look to go back to the draft to replace them 2/3 years into that extension window

depends on what he is saying behind the scene,  if he really is wanting out for better endorsement opportunities elsewhere he will play nice for a while to save his image,  but if he is really wanting out he wont stay nice for long,   especially behind the scenes and once he starts to become a problem his value will drop.
