2024 QB Watch

According to Florio via KFAN, Vikings are "obsessed" with drafting star QB this year.

Based on what they attempted to do last year and the situation they find themselves this year, I think this is true. I even think they'd move up to 1 (no matter the cost) if they thought the Bears would trade with them.

But I think it could be the Commies at 2. There have been rumors that Washington is interested in trading for Fields. They could trade back to 11, get a haul of future picks to rebuild that team, using just one of them to trade for Fields. Plus they'd still have the 11th pick if they wanted to draft a QB to compete with Fields.

Vikings get their choice between Daniels and Maye....or even Williams if the Bears don't like what they see when they vet him.
Florio is a bozo but I agree too. The fallback plan of Sam Darnold is just such a long... fall... back. No GM can sell that with a straight face barring some kind of miracle career resurrection for Darnold.
I see there's now a rumor thread about us moving up to 4. I think they're gonna move heaven and earth to get to 4 or higher. Letting other teams decide who the face of our franchise is by taking their leftovers is a dicey.
It's such an incredibly bad strategy doubling down on that player busting by mortgaging future high round draft capital is not something I'd want to be a part of. Even if that means rolling with Darnold and a mid round rookie for a year. DO NOT MORTGAGE OUR FUTURE TO TAKE A SWING AT THE 4TH OR 5TH BEST QB IN THIS DRAFT!

3 of our last 10 first round picks are good. When you think of it this way trading up gets easier to stomach.
If the tea leaves are to be believed and KO and Kwesi disagreed on Kirk, it becomes even more important for KAM to get KO the QB he wants in this draft. Lest we have another dreaded SCHISM.

Not everyone is going to agree on who the 4th or 5th best QB in the draft is. We know at least one NFC team has JJM QB2. So if the Vikings take the 4th QB but have him ranked QB2, that's a win.

I think Kwesi believes, rightly so, that with the offense we have and the shit ton of cap space we have, hitting on a rookie QB (at whatever the cost) would set this team up for a decade and make him GM of the year. But it's a HUGE gamble.

We know Kirk is going to light it up in Atlanta. So Kwesi is either going to be a laughing stock and fired within a year, or he'll be GM of the year for rebuilding a super bowl contender while nobody was looking.

None of those guys were top 10 picks though and that is what you are realistically looking at giving up if the quarterback we draft is a bust or Darnold is our starter this year. If the quarterback we draft busts, we are probably looking at a few years of top 10 picks. That's called doubling down on your misery, and let's face it, our GM has been spotty at best at identifying draft talent so what makes anybody think he us hitting on a quarterback on his first swing? This just has the makings of a collasal shit sandwich if this thing gets flubbed. We need to be smart (not book smart, football smart) in how we move forward

You are right, with the other side of that coin being he gives up Hershall Walker-esque load of draft picks to move up, misses on a QB (as most do), and not only do we have to deal with the repercussions of drafting a bust at quarterback, but now we don't have our future first round picks either. That's why (despite our talent on offense) we CAN NOT force this thing if it's not there.

Was thinking the same thing the minute I first saw the JJ to the Bengals rumor.

For Better or worse, this is exactly where Kwesi has put us.  If he does nothing other than Darnold and a mid-round dart throw to address the QB position, he's truly terrible at his job and should be fired.  If he misses on the QB that he's sunk al of his eggs into this basket for...he'll also be fired.  After letting the QB face of the franchise for the last 6 years walk out the door, he literally has no choice other than to address the position in a huge way.

I'm not saying this is the best plan we could have had, but it is where we are.  Kwesi has to produce the QBOTF at any and all costs and then hope he pans out.  It's a shit load to gamble on, but it's his career.....

It is surprising that a young up and comer like Kwesi would gamble his career on a decision with such long odds.

Not if you know the game.

'Past performance is not indicative of future results'....KAM is letting everyone know to stay tuned. Its not over yet. Looks like he's going to dip into blue chip stock territory.
