If we drafted Maye, I'd feel comfortable with it.  I trust O'Connell to pick the right guy being a former QB and strong x's and O's guy.  I think he's the perfect coach to get the most out of any of these rookie QBs. Maye has a ton of tools, just needs to clean up the inconsistencies in his game.  Could be our Josh Allen...

Rumors de jour … Of course, its smoke and mirrors time in the NFL so one always wants to be cautious not to overact to any buzz, but there a couple of stories that don’t seem to want to die and may have some legs which could ultimately impact the early going at the 2024 draft. One has Minnesota prepared to deal star WR Justin Jefferson who will be a free agent at the end of the upcoming season and wants a monster deal. A couple of possible destinations have been mentioned; one is Cincinnati, the other is a possible deal with Arizona in which the Vikings would send Jeffereson and the 11th pick overall in the draft to the Cardinals in exchange for the 4th pick where Minnesota would presumably grab a QB. The Cardinals have been thought to be targeting Ohio State WR Marvin Harrison with that pick, but Jefferson is already proven, plus they’d still get a close-to top 10 pick in this year’s draft. We even wondered whether the Vikings might try and tempt New England if the Patriots were thinking more of taking Harrison themselves with the 3rd pick. However, there are other reports out there which indicate that the Patriots are actually very much focused on acquiring a veteran FA WR and are waiting to see how the situation with Calvin Ridley plays out in Jacksonville. The Patriots are also reportedly waiting to see how the situations plays out with the LA Chargers who have just released Mike Williams. On the one hand, it would seem in fact that the Patriots are thinking of addressing their WR need in FA meaning that they likely won’t be trading the #3 pick. It also means that the Chargers themselves could very well be looking at a WR like Washington’s Rome Udunze or LSU’s Malik Nabers with the 5th pick. Stay tuned!

This does make me pause, because it's really bizarre that Jefferson hasn't been signed. It would seem to me the biggest slam dunk in recent memory to get him signed to an extebsion. It makes me wonder if there were back door agreements on waiting to see what happens with Cousins and perhaps he'd be an even more tradable commodity not being under contract? It is smoke and mirrors season...but you never know

It wouldn't surprise me one bit to see JJ dealt for a possible shot at a top QBOTF.  No way am I going to guess if it happens or not, but nothing would surprise me this off season.

Some will disagree but if both were options I’d much rather trade the picks necessary to move up than JJ. Even if that meant 3 firsts.

I agree. It’s frustrating a deal hasn’t been done.

Like i said in another thread…Kirk’s negotiation and the line we drew in the sand could be affecting JJ’s negotiation. Don’t think he wasn’t paying attention to how it all went down.

Kirk was his QB from the jump and he could be seeing that how Kirk was treated is how faces and leaders of this franchise get treated in negotiations.

We probably get the deal done, but it’s not the slam dunk it should be. A lot will depend on the draft, I feel. If we shit the bed and don’t get a big time QBOTF, he ain’t gonna want to stick around for the Darnold Show. Yeah we could franchise him, but i can guarantee he’ll hold out.

Yep JJ, when you’re 36,  don’t expect a fully guaranteed 4 yr deal…  Wink B)

lol…. I’m just sayin. Teammates see how each other get treated when they try to get their bag. I’m not saying there’s an unrepairable riff between both camps, but there is definitely something going on. Otherwise this deal would already be done.

Kirk and Danielle wanted to get paid this offseason and the Vikings kicked both of them to the curb. Jefferson ALSO wants to get paid…ALOT. How do you think he’s feelin right now about how much the Vikings want him?

And I'm just saying JJ is a WRer. How many games did we win without him last year? More than I ever thought was probable. I think Minnesota loves JJ but they are really assessing their options right now. Taking their time. JJ is going to get his bag.

This is the time, right now, for Minnesota to get their QB. It really is all about the QB.
