Informative watch. I really think we blew it not taking this guy. Allegedly ran 4.22 at Alabama is already running in the 4.4 range five months post surgery. He's going to be a problem...and not only did we pass, but we let the f'n Lions move up to take him. Oh and that is Cine he blows by at the 2:30 mark and thats the same vaunted Georgia defense he lit up in the SEC Championship for 184 yards and 2 TD's.

I just look over the years. Theres been sooooo many “sure things” WRs whats the odds he is the next thing?
You realize this is the Vikings we are talking about right, in relation to luck? So of course Williams and Watson are going to be great players...
Oh please. Yeah, the Lions have been such great draft strategists in their history. Green Bay has been hit and miss as well. If you want to view every Draft in hindsight, there will be plenty of blame for every team in the league. Every year. If there's one quality that definitely does NOT determine how good a NFL WRer will be, its speed.
This has been a nice pick for Green Bay: https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/jorda...-contract/
This.
John Ross, Corey Coleman, Will Fuller, Kevin White, Breshad Perriman, Philip Dorsett, Tavon Austin, AJ Jenkins. DHB, Troy Williamson, Ashley Lelie....all 1st rounders, all 4.3 or sub 4.3 forties. All busts.
I think Williams has a ton of potential, but we won't see that for about a year and a half. And I wouldn't worry too much about the Lions. They still don't have a QB. Sure, they'll draft one next year. But if they don't hit on him, all of this moot.
Did you watch the video? Speed certainly isn't everything, but he's more then just a speed guy and put up huge production against the SEC. It's not like he was doing it against Alcorn State and the guys you listed were drafted based on physical traits because most didn't have the production to backup where they were drafted. 7 catches for 184 yards and 2 TD's in the SEC Championship including blowing right by Cine on one of the TD's. He was a lock to go top 5 if he hadn't injured his knee en route to another big game against Georgia in the championship.
And yeah we can certainly bust on the Lions for past draft mistakes, but their new GM has put together two really solid draft classes and injected real talent onto their roster. Let's also not forget that they should have beaten us both games last season and that draft bust Jared Goff led them down the field for the winning TD when Dantzler shit himself in the end zone.
Who knows. If we get two starters out of our top 4 picks (which were 2 picks) then we did just fine. Its a giant roulette wheel. I’m not opposed to additional spins.
I don't want just "starters" but impact players and guys that make our team significantly better. Nobody knows, but do you look at any of the top four picks and go "that guy is going to make us tough to play against" because I don't, and think we traded out of a spot where we could have gotten a more impactful player. Is Cine going to be that huge of an upgrade to what Woods was last year or Bynum could have been? I don't think so. I think Booth might be our most impactful pick because he fit our biggest need, but is he a starter or another MacKenzie Alexander? Nobody knows on Ingram. Asomoah is a backup and special teams guy. It's all a roulette wheel yes, but Kwesi sped that roulette wheel up ten fold with what he did
I still think Bynum becoming a starter is a pipe dream. So I do think we drafted a starter. I would have preferred Hamilton, but if speed knocked him off our board then I guess Cine is 1. I’d put my money on Ingram starting. Our LB is likley the backup at inside backer.
Booth dropped because he’s an injury concern. If he turns out great, if not, it is what it is. Peterson and Datnzler will start.
Well now, yes, after investing a 1st round pick in Cine...but prior to that Bynum was one of our best rookies last year and looked really good when he got on the field. For the impact most safeties make, we could have won with him starting and invested that pick at another position. It's why even with Hamilton still on the board, I would have leaned towards taking Jameson Williams or Jordan Davis. I don't see drafting Cine as some huge upgrade to what Woods gave us last year or Bynum would have this season.
I won't hold my breath on Ingram, who was a reach on most boards. We've thrown a lot of mud at that position this offseason so hopefully something sticks.

Every year, we hear about how "this WR is different" than the identical ones who came before. I agreed with you though: I thought Williams was the best talent at WR in the draft. But again, you're not going to see much from him this year. It was a pick for 2023. That's a pick a team like the Lions make, not the Vikings.
Sometimes I think we forget that our Defense needs assets and big time fixing. Kwesi made his call I think it was the right one for the team

I disagree based on Thielens age and injuries the last few years that have caused a decline in production. His contract is also going to need to be addressed maybe as early as this next offseason. All indications are Williams will be ready to go by Halloween and would not only provide us with quality insurance should we lose one of our starters, but also make us an extremely difficult match up when all three are healthy and available for the stretch run. I would have been more then fine starting Bynum at safety and waiting on the potential payoff with Williams. Safety's don't win you championships, but impact players at the skill positions do. Rams, Chiefs, and the Bengals were all finalists loaded at the skill positions. The Vikings could have put themselves in that conversation

IF and a big IF Williams becomes a good/great nfl receiver. Time will tell very soon if Williams turns into something or is just another on a long list. Tredwell put up some pretty big numbers at Ole Miss. Not quite Williams numbers, but not that far off. He was thought as one of the surefire bets at WR in his class.

Not even comparable from a talent standpoint. You are talking about a guy who ran a 4.65 vs a guy who runs in the 4.2 range. You are talking about a guy who was drafted 23rd versus a guy who went 12th overall still with a blown ACL.
Williams will be very good. Calvin Johnson was a HOF'er. Stafford won a SB.
Lions can have great players but until they can actually win games I don't really care who they add. It's more about us and not about them.

I think Campbell is Mike Tice-Light, but they are building an impressive team. The skill position guys are one of the best young groups in the league. Swift, Hockenson, St Brown (who killed us), and Jameson Williams. They have two good bookend tackles in Sewell and Decker, and the defense just added Hutchinson who looks like the next Jared Allen on defense. Talent wise they are right up there with us when Williams is healthy

Well....not sure about that. I do think they're building a better team, but first of all, Williams is a rookie. Even if you ignore the knee, we don't know yet whether he's Randy Moss or Henry Ruggs. Swift might be the best back they've had in years, but he's not Dalvin Cook. Nor is St. Brown in the same league as even Thielen, let alone Jefferson. And the real kicker, their QB is still Jared Goff.

I don't know...I'm pretty excited about our receivers with KJO entering his 3rd season, Bisi coming back, along with a wild card in ISM. The high level talent is there at the top and the depth is a nice mix of high upside potential (ISM) and low floor reliability (Bisi).
And don't forget that Williams is a rookie. Look, I liked him too. But you seem convinced he's going to be some special talent from day one. We don't even know if he can play in the NFL. Remember, over the last 10 years, MOST WRs taken in the 1st round have been busts. So...long way to go on that.
