Watson To The Browns

Deshaun Watson gets a fully guaranteed 5 year $230M contract. That is $80M more than the previous record for fully guaranteed money at signing ($150M). This deal was negotiated by David Mulugheta of Athletes First.
So does everyone understand how fucked up this is? The team that knows him best, Houston, is trading him. For obvious reasons. Yet there's always another team willing to gamble everything on talent. Regardless of character. But you know what? The owners of every NFL team make a shitload of money so when its all said and done, who cares? Swing and a miss maybe but the money keeps coming. For these billionaires its just a fun toy. They don't need it to be successful, just exciting. Fans are the money stream that just keeps giving.

The owners aren't marking their territory with Superbowl wins...they've already done it with $$$$$. The rest is just the cherry on the sundae.

Yep. And it also says a lot about the NFL’s attitude towards women.

After not playing last season and still facing 22 civil lawsuits alleging sexual assault, it says a lot about the NFL’s attitude toward QBs that the Browns are giving Deshaun Watson a brand new contract before the extension he signed in September 2020 has even started.

The #49ers traded 3 firsts and a third for Trey Lance.

The #Browns traded 3 firsts, a third, and a fourth for Deshaun Watson and a fifth-rounder

Is there a NFC team that will sniff a super bowl for the next 5 years?

Well, we know for sure at least one NFC team will show up for the Super Bowl...winning one is another question.

The talent around him was there....in spades. The QB wasn't. Just goes to show that missing on a QB in the 1st round, which is far more likely than hitting, sets your team back years.
Missing on a QB doesn't set your team back years.  What sets you back years is not getting another guy in the pipeline.
Pipeline? Do you mean drafting another one or drafting one and letting them sit? Like Jordan Love and Trey Lance? Because although that's what fans like to see organizations do (draft them and have them sit a year) that actually rarely works out. The guys that end up producing are the ones that play early. So yeah, missing on a QB isn't ideal. But in the NFL, QB bandaids abound.
No, what I'm saying is that if you draft a Ponder or a Trubisky, you don't play him for 5 years hoping that he figures it out, and then cut him, and then draft the best option in that draft because you now have no one and are desperate.   You should know within 2 years if they're realistically likely to be elite.  If not draft another guy and play whoevers the best, and then trade someone if you end up with 2 good players.  I do think there are sometimes you should sit a QB for a year, mostly when you are trying to overhaul their throwing motion and trying to ingrain a habit.

I'm also a believer that you draft QBs when you have the chance to draft a good one, rather than when you are desperate.  You just never know if the draft you need a QB will even have a quality QB available.

And there are those here that wanted that POS. Was that price worth it? Also is there a suspension coming or no?
