Hmm, the poster who generates the most automatic agreement (POPS96) and the poster who generates the most automatic disagreement (NJVike) are saying the same thing about a topic. A lot of knees must not know which way to jerk when they read this thread.
LOL! The Midwest Middle School gang can hate me all they want. I could not possibly care less. For all the tough talk and smarmy ass remarks about my vociferous criticism of Saint Richard, I notice that NONE of the Ryckophants has a response to my question as to WHY they have such blind faith in a GM that has 2 playoff wins to his credit in 13 years (and an equally pathetic record with his previous 2 teams). They just choose to commence with the personal attacks on me (simple minds, simple responses).

Why no reply to that GLARING issue?  There is no logical reply, that's why. Any lame attempt to excuse it would be pathetic. Hence, kill the messenger!

As Pops stated, most GM's with such a horrendous playoff record would have been looooong gone. Certainly in big markets.

As far as Pops being bitter? I dont blame him one bit considering Slick Ricks latest screw job of Brian.

But it should be noted that Pop's issue with Schpielman go waaaay back to the beginning of Brian's Vikings tenure. His release did NOT initiate Pop's, shall we say, negative opinions of Ricky.

His FIRSTHAND experience dealing with RS carries a helluva lot more weight with me than the opinions of the weenies on here who blindly goosestep to whatever marching tune Schpielman broadcasts from Eagan/Winter Park.

Kudos to you, again, Pops. I appreciate an INTELLIGENT opinion!

Peace

Your right with your rhetoric factual statements regarding the Vikings playoff record, free agent signings and draft picks through the Spielman era.   But simply put for the rest of us, good or bad.  The Minnesota Vikings are our team.  No matter how much you bad mouth the Vikings, it doesn't change anything, they are still our team.  If the Vikings are such an embarrassment to you, move on.  This year, next year, every year, we will still be here with the same hopes and excitement for our team.  As usual, the Vikings will win some more games and you will go silent for a while until you see another opportunity to express you negative opinions.  But that's alright with the rest of us, we don't give a shit either.
njvike,

As much as I enjoy your relenting criticism of Spielman, and much of it is well deserved, he and Zimmer have done some good things during their tenures so I think it would help your credibility if you would come on once in while when they are playing well to point out the things you like about the team to balance things out. I'm sure you have some very good opinions on other Non-Spielman related topics so it would be nice to see you post some of those once in a while.

I agree with you on POP's history with Spielman. This built up over time and all came to head with how it ended. Now we know if was the GM that wanted him gone and not the coaching staff so that definitely calls into question some of head scratching decisions by RS on personnel and the meddling POPS referred to.

Hey, TBro. First, thanks for your civil response. I don't know why my criticisms of Ricky result in so many PERSONAL attacks at me, but I guess it's just a case of "simple minds, simple reactions".

I was going to reply to one of the goosestepping weenies, Arizonawhatever, (you know, the vapid purple Pollyanna type that marches to whatever dirge Ricky broadcasts from Eagan/Winter Park), but you seem to be a logical thinker, so I thought it best to respond to you directly and not bunch up any more purple panties or big-boy huggies.

To your point of my not posting frequently? Well, thats kind of has been my M.O.  dating back to my PT days. I check in here a few times a week.....Offer a thumbs up or "funny" on occasion, but don't really like to comment from my phone. I have yet to master the dual thumb typing style and just don't care enough to waste my time. To my detractors, please note that if that reasoning doesn't suffice, TOUGH SHIT.

But back to topic. Why my relentless OBSERVATIONS about L'il Ricky's playoff record?

First, it's a response to the ENDLESS dialogue about the minutiae of every game. Yeah, that interception was bad. Yeah, that missed field goal was bad. Yeah, that fumble hurt. Yeah, that dropped pass was crucial.

Thank you Captain Obvious! Most LOSING teams can lament  3 or 4 plays that decided the game. The Vikings are not unique in this regard.

But after rooting for this incredibly frustrating team since 1968 (I'll go with age 5 as the starting point, started earlier I'm sure), I now take a MACRO view of this team's ridiculously bad playoff results.

Who has been in control of ALL scouting since 2006? Who has been involved in every personnel decision for the Vikings since 2006?

We all know the answer.

I don't see the point in endless threads discussing whether or not a holding call was BS , or why a guy fumbled, or if an interception was the QB's fault or the WR's fault. ALL that matters is PLAYOFF SUCCESS.

At this point, I don't even care (too much) about winning the SB. Just at least fucking GET there! That accomplishment alone would be SOMETHING at least.

A team needs to win 2 or 3 CONSECUTIVE playoff games to just MAKE it to the Super Bowl, 3 or 4 to actually
WIN IT.

The last time a Vikings squad has managed even TWO playoff wins? 1987.

That's a loooong fucking time ago.

But, hey, if my "credibility" would be improved by more frequent posts, I'll make a point to make some positive posts.

Here's one : As a life long Notre Dame fan, I LOVED the trade up to get Harrison, and posted my approval. Ricky got one right (trading up for Cook and Gerhardt, not so much). Am I NOW allowed to be a Vikings fan?

Sorry for the rant, TBro. Again, I appreciate your civil post.

I just feel justified that someone with first hand knowledge of behind the scenes dealings with Schpielman echos my displeasure with his   playoff RESULTS

Have a nice evening.

Peace

Funny how earlier this same year, this same franchise, beat the same team by a small margin ( some might even dub it a miracle ) & No One in this thread was questiong anyone nor anything. Probably too busy running around cheering

This doesn't surprise you, does it? Fans are bipolar, everything is super great or absolutely sucks. Fire Zimmer. Blah blah blah. Highly emotional and too close to the trees.

I think Zimmer has won The North what? 3 of the past 4 or 5 years? Maybe 4 division titles now?

It was pretty damn desolate and bleak when he got here. The Vikings were Aaron Rogers bitches.

Now is one playoff win enough? Division Titles enough? Not for me, not after all these decades of waiting to get back to a SB and win one. I'm in my 50's now, was a teen the last SB we played .

Yah the game is evolving, and it has to. It's not always changing for the better. And in spite of my "I smell mediocrity" thread, I believe that when the dust settles this year, having a coaching staff and team that can hold a team like the Saints to 200 yards is going to have a good chance in the post season.

Defense isn't dead, it's evolving how you have to play it. Hell, we may even see a DL, Corner or LB drafted #1 again next year. But I'll bet with Flip and Cousins here now, the OL is going to get more attention than we've seen.

Actually twice his teams won the division.

2014:  7-9 = 3rd
2015: 11-5=1st
2016:  8-8 =3rd
2017: 13-3=1st

Hopefully not a pattern. He needs to put 2 playoff season together.
I'm not calling for him to be fired. I do think he's not done enough to draw questions being this will be his 5 season. We will see how we finish before anything can really be said.

2014 was a hell of an improvement considering we came off a 5-10-1 record the year before.  That was even without AD for 15 games as he was suspended for the child abuse thing unexpectedly and starting a rookie QB for the majority of the season.  2016 was a promising season (started 5-0) even with Bradford coming in for Teddy but it was derailed by an absolute slew of injuries to the team.

Plus, he has won the division the past 2 out of 3 years having to unexpectedly start a different QB each year.  Cousins is now his 5th starting QB in the past 4+ seasons.  It has to be hard to coach having to continually replace the most important player on your team each and every year, but yet Zimmer has still succeeded under those tough circumstances.  Like I said earlier, we just need to finally find some consistency at QB and hopefully we'll now have that for at least the next 3 seasons (knocks on wood).

And yet some people want him on the hot seat even with a winning record so far this season having already played the Packers, Rams, Eagles and Saints (3 of those on the road).  I just don't get it.

It isn't your criticism of RS that draws a negative response.  Many people here do that, some with tact, some more blunt.  But one note posters typically get tiresome.  Posters that only show up when it is time to kick the dog and use every thread to play their solitary tiresome note get very tiresome.  And then when said posters start adding personal insults into every thread, that person gets considered a troll.

We know you don't like Rick.  Your brilliant and witty signature lets us know every post.  So cut the redundancy and post a different opinion once in a while.  Cut the personal attacks where you let us know how much smarter you are (as if it wasn't obvious with every detailed post.)  Show up with some praise when the Vikings win once.   And quit hijacking every thread with your personal beef with Rick.

So it isn't personal.  Most just go by the thought, if it talks like a troll, walks like a troll, it probably is a troll.

4th and 1 and you go for it with an empty backfield in your own half of the field?
It would have been fine had they converted and it sucked of course that they didn't, but my major issue was throwing it to Treadwell downfield.  Thielen and Robinson were open immediately at ~4-5 yards.  Unfortunately Kirk didn't wait for the linebacker to clear for a throw to Thielen and a defender was closing on Robinson when he turned that way but he still probably could have stuck it in.  Beyond that, both defenders covering the two wide right were giving a five yard cushion AND both took steps BACKWARDS at the snap.  A quick throw to either probably would have gotten at least one yard.
