Cousins to the Vikings already a done deal?

I'm honestly shocked that more fans aren't in favor of signing Cousins...  he is one of the best deep ball throwers in the NFL since he became a starter.  The Vikings have two of the best WRs in the NFL in contested catches and can make plays downfield.  These offensive skill players made Bradford and Keenum have career years...  and those seasons weren't even as good as Cousins has been the past three years.  I don't know why fans are expecting Cousins to play worse than he did with the Skins.  He's an upgrade.  I would much rather pay him 27 million per year than Case 20 million per year over a 3-5 year contract.
I haven't seen anything about Cousins being one of the best deep ball throwers.  Would you happen to have a source?

Here's what find:
https://www.footballoutsiders.com/index....rk-cousins

https://brickwallblitz.com/2017/03/26/th...roject-13/

It seems like PFF had him at #10 for last year (pay wall) and the deep ball project isn't out yet.

Here is one article that takes a dive into his production over most of his 3 years as a starter.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/fanc...a165aefacb
"Since becoming Washington’s starting quarterback in 2015, Cousins has completed 1,034 of 1,525 attempts (67.8 percent) for 12,121 yards, 73 touchdowns and 29 interceptions. His passer rating of 99.7 over that span ranks fifth among 22 quarterbacks with at least 1,000 pass attempts. Only two future Hall of Famers, Tom Brady and Drew Brees, and the 2016 MVP, Matt Ryan, have a higher total passer rating since 2015. The order changes slightly — Brady, Ryan, Brees, Cousins — if you use adjusted net yards per pass, an updated version of passer rating that has a slightly higher correlation to team wins."
"The offensive line, held together with duct tape and glue, ranks 29th this season for pass-blocking ability, per Pro Football Focus, and has seen Cousins pressured on 36.6 percent of his drop-backs in 2017, the highest rate during his three-year run. Yet his passer rating under pressure this season is 81.6, a career high and the sixth-highest in 2017."
"The high-level performance for Cousins isn’t the result of conservative passes, either. His 42.5 percent completion rate on deep throws, those traveling 20 or more yards in the air, ranks fifth among 27 quarterbacks attempting at least 100 deep throws over the past three years. His passer rating (109.0) on these attempts is second only to Matthew Stafford of the Detroit Lions. And this proficiency down the field isn’t merely the result of having DeSean Jackson on the roster during his first two seasons under center for Washington: Cousins’s completion percentage (40.5 percent) and passer rating (109.7) rank eighth and seventh, respectively, in 2017 with Josh Doctson as his primary deep threat."
"Some will dismiss Cousins’s performance due to a lack of wins relative to his peers, but it is silly to assign quarterbacks wins and losses as if they have total control over the outcome of the game. Instead, it is more instructive to look at how often the passing game scores on each play compared to other offenses in the same situation. For example, with Cousins at the helm, Washington has scored 8.5 points per game more than expected based on each play’s down, distance and field position. Since 2015, only the New England Patriots, Atlanta Falcons, New Orleans Saints and Pittsburgh Steelers have exceeded expectations by more points per game due to their ability to pass the ball."

Take these excerpts from the article how you want...  but Cousins has produced under less than ideal circumstances.  It's hard to argue that he isn't a top 12 QB in the NFL no matter which way you slice it.

And I will add some other stats:
Redskins running YDS per game 28th, 20, and 20 ranked the last 3 years.
Redskins Defense Points per game tie 27th, 20, and 20 ranked the last 3 years.

So Cousins has performed well but has not won much because his OL has been subpar, the Redskins' running game has been subpar, and the Redskins' defense has been subpar.  And we are talking about an owner who is never shy about spending money in FA, being limited only by the salary cap.
Assuming Cousins is serious about winning, he must realize   that he cannot do it alone. He needs help from a lot of good players. And those guys need to get paid, too. Otherwise you end up with a subpar OL, a subpar defense, and a subpar running game. May as well stay in Washington for that.

Agent - Hey Rick!  Wanna catch a late lunch about 3-25 to 3-30?  I'm 80% guaranteed you'll like the salad if you add the right dressing.  Let me know

Nonsense. The defense is good, but the offense, especially the offensive line, is nowhere near Super Bowl contention.

RS: 3:25 is a little late, but I think I can do it. I'm like 75% sure I can.  Brez says he wants to join us.

Unless all media outlets are wrong on a massive scale, this Cousins to the Vikings thing looks real. Obviously, the Vikings view this as the best way to go. Moving on from Bridgewater and Keenum is very interesting and telling.
I have to agree and the fact that the Vikings have not extended anyone YET is telling.  To me.

Now they could decide to offer someone a deal right before free agency but that seems strange too.

It does not infer they had much confidence in the player they would sign.

Why wait so long if that is the QB you wanted all along?

Seems to me the Vikings are not really confident in any of the current 3 QBs.

They may have to "settle" for one of them but if they really believed in one of them then it would have been over by now.

At least that is what I think.

So why are we talking about it incessantly?

Because the team, not us, has not made a decision.

I think they will get Cousins without a doubt.

He said he wanted to win and this is the best team.

The money will not be an issue.
I think Zimmer wanted Teddy, but after Teddy got the hook in favor of Bradford, that spoke volumes.  Rick is putting the team in the best situation, and whether we believe Case could have done the same, he must feel Cousins has an edge over him.  Facts are, I would rather have Cousins in a high scoring game, late in the fourth quarter.  I just hope this doesn't prevent the team from still getting a player or two in FA.  I would still like to see Norwell line up at Left Guard and Easton resigned.  Hopefully this 90 million guaranteed is spread over more than three years.

Cousins won't stop us from keeping our team together, will help us in the high scoring game, but now we are who we are... we probably can't ADD anyone else. Is Cousins that last missing piece? Can Rick do enough through the draft or add a 2nd and 3rd tier guy to finish it off? Because now we are basically who we are if we want to keep that D (and Diggs) plus KC8 on this team.

BS.  91 Million.  Exactly 1 million more than what the Jets were supposedly offering.

last year we got 3 starters in the draft. so if we can get an OL or DT that starts that is going to go a long way is getting us there. but if we sign cousins i doubt theres any other first tier FAs coming this year. hopefully we can find a gem or two in FA for cheap. or you dont sign one of our stars in 19 and swap out that with someone today. with cousins we have 2-3 years worth of a window to get it done.

Just an FYI on a potential deal with Cousins, the Vikings can offer roughly $50K less per every $1M compared to the Jets off of income taxes alone. So for example if the Jets offer a 5 year $150M deal the Vikings could offer a 5 year $142.5M deal and Kirk would be taking home the same amount.
