I get concerns about him staying healthy after this season, but we're better off developing him than delaying his development another year by sitting the bench.  The only way we bring in Rodgers is if the coaching staff has decided to move off him as our franchise QB.  And if that's the case, it's a bunch of egg on Kevin's face after he declared JJ McCarthy was our franchise QB his rookie year.

As far as our high priced vets go, you can make that case every year.  NFL rosters turnover every 3-4 years.  When we made the decision to start him this season, we committed to seeing this thru until his 5th year option needs to be picked up.

How does me saying "he has a bright future...but I fear he's more than a year away" suggest I'm ready to give up on JJ? The reason I think Rodgers is a good option for us is precisely because I DON'T want to give up on JJ. While there are a couple younger QB options out there who would signal giving up on JJ, signing Rodgers would signal the opposite.

It could be that Rodgers is exactly what JJM needs. There is a narrative that Rodgers will not mentor young QB's. But according to those young QB's, that isn't true.

Both Love and Howard have gushed about how he helps them along, explains things to them, and gives them advice. Rodgers had mentioned that after how he felt in Green Bay, basically being shunned, he wouldn't ever put a young player thorough that.
I'm not a fan of how he asks for a flag after every incomplete pass or if anyone touches him. But as for not being a douche to his backups, that's made up.

Is he a viable option? I have no idea. But lets face it, he's smart and would have the chance to pick up the offense pretty quickly.

You send the wrong message by bringing in someone to start over JJ McCarthy.  It tells him and the team you don't think he has a future because you handed him the team and now you're taking it away.

The Broncos worked thru Nix's early season struggles and he figured it out.  Patriots took their lumps with Maye last year after he won 2 games for them and had 16 TDs to 10 INTs.  Patriots reaped the rewards by sticking with him and continuing to build around him.  Same thing with the Bears. McCarthy went 6-4 and had 15 TDs and 12 INTs in his first year starting. Why can't the Vikings do the same?  Maybe everything clicks for him this off-season?  His play was trending up until the hand injury limited him the last two games.

I agree that it’s very possible McCarthy follows the path of Nix, Maye and Williams. It might even be likely. But we have to remember that JJ is much younger than every one of those guys. And we have to acknowledge that his development might take longer. So at the very least, the Vikings need a safety net at QB2, and a more reliable one than either Wentz or Brosmer. There’s too much at stake.

Jefferson and Addison, the linemen and backs have all been model teammates in their public support of JJ, but at some point their patience is going to run out. Because if we declare JJ the starter and things go sideways again, and we don’t have anything behind him to give the team some confidence that the season isn't over because of it, it’s going to be deja vu all over again. The Vikings CANNOT LET THAT HAPPEN.

Interestingly, Cousins just restructured to facilitate his release on day 2 of the league year. Hmmm…  Cool Angel
