I really hope Detroit is stoopid enough to pass on Trevon Walker too - yikes.
Give me Liberty (QB Malik Willis)
Or give me def(ensive line help)
Willis would be super intriguing if he is there at 12...  probably the only guy I would consider that isn't a pass rusher or CB at our spot.
Understandable. When Kwesi mentions the 2017 draft being thought of as a bad QB class (Mahomes and Watson), I have to think he's talking about Willis being the diamond in the rough.

But, man Willis has some pretty damning warts.
He does...  it's like is he Jalen Hurts or is his upside higher than that?  He's the best bet out of this group of QBs to pop with his arm and athleticism (IMO), but his accuracy makes you pause.

Tempting. But we did just pay Horrible Harry $20M to play nose for us. I might change my mind, but right now I'm taking corners with our first two picks.
If you believe Davis is purely a run-stuffer, he isn't worth the #12 pick. If you think he has pass rushing upside and can be a high-end disruptor, he is a value at #12. So really depends on viewpoint. I wouldn't necessarily view Phillips as an every-down player, he's flexible in how he can be utilized.

In early down situations you can dare teams to run playing a deep cover-2 shell which protects the corners and you'd be effective with a front 3 of Tominson - Davis - Phillips. Good luck running on that. On passing down I still feel like he's a more functionals pass-rusher than Phillips so you get value there. I honestly think they would get a lot of value out Davis in sneaky ways.

I agree that corner is a more pressing need and a premium position. But after you get past Sauce/Stingley how much of a drop-off is there to the 2nd round corners?

I have literally seen next to nothing of Willis. A couple series in the Senior Bowl and that it. To me, he's a bigger Kyler Murray.

He makes Matt Corrall look like a junior high kid.

Yeah Willis had some games where he was just awful. His one one game against a ranked opponent (#16 Ole Miss), was hugely unimpressive. Just looking at his stat sheet for the year you'd expect Steve McNair at Alcorn State type numbers and it was more like Sean Mannion at Green Bay type numbers.

I still like Pickett the best of the bunch but, man, any glove on the hand quarterback who needs the extra grip makes me super leery...on top of his fumble numbers. Corral and Howell look like the same guy to me.
Willis is hot today because of his pro day today...so he is QB du jourSmile

Not thrilled with his size or his completion % of around 61% down from the year before...I really like to see a big jump from one year to the next like Pickett did in all stats.
Also, noticed that he was sacked 51 times last year and had 12 Int's.  Without reviewing tape of his OL etc is he a one read guy and run?  Lastly, he is not the runner that Lamar is or some of the other running QB's of late - IMO.  I look at him as a day 2 guy but someone might reach because he plays the most important position in sports.

Pro Days are hilarious. Such a load of horseshit as far as anything meaningful. Completely orchestrated. Remember Johnny Manziel's?? LMAO. Music blaring and he's just throwing passes around and everyone is getting hot and bothered. Its a joke.

Yea I kinda thought of Manziel's pro day when they were showing Willis running around laughing and all....it is all showmanship.

Davis has elite potential and could play the nose or as an end due to his freakish athleticism. I’d take him over any player in this draft and I’d play him at end. Defenses will have to account for his size and speed.
Physically, he has no comparison. He ran a 4.78 at 341 pounds compared to 4.91 at 290 that JJ Watt did. They are nearly identical upper body strength.
I’d like to see a 3 come on the guy, but watching him move I’m guessing it would be good. He’s a game changer at the NFL level and will keep offensive coordinators awake at night.

I’d move up for him if necessary.

You really think he's going to be a disruptor vs the pass?

I am no eye for talent but I really thought of him as just a big (really big) 1 gapper??

If you listened closely to Kwesi today, he basically said that they are in conversations with PPs camp and they are working hard to make it happen.  He definitely did not sound as optimistic about resigning Barr.  He said "never say never" but I think you are going to need a Barr replacement if we want to sign PP.

What I look for and value may not be the same as the next guy. I value run stop and forcing a QB to not be able to set his feet or deliver a throw with their normal throwing motion. In these regards, Davis is an elite talent. Especially his ability to stop the run.
If you watch his tape, he’s extremely difficult to block. He will stiff arm a lineman with one arm and completely neutralize him, allowing the player no chance to do anything to stop him from making a play on the running back. His strength is simply ridiculous. He likely won’t be as dominant right away in the NFL because he’ll be facing older stronger men, but he may get there quickly.

The reason I love him for the Vikings is his run stopping ability and ability to occupy multiple blockers. If he’s playing end and he’s his usual disruptive self, that can allow an outside rush linebacker one on one against a RB to get to the QB. He may not put the monster sack stats on the board, but he will definitely impact the teams ability to force pressure, get sacks, and leave opposing offenses in 3rd and longs. All those things can make a world of difference getting off the field and getting a W.
My concern is his ability to go 3 downs. I think he can, but not everyone will see it the same way and that will change how he’s rated by some. Time will always tell, but I think he can have as big of a disruptive presence as some of the best in the business.
