Anyone here on the Penix train? Or JJMc?

Going to be fun watching both tonight.
Penix. JJ missed too many throws today while Penix kept fitting the ball in tight windows. Just my igorant observation from today’s game. Not sire if being a leftie is bad or puts him at a disadvantage but I will wait to hear from more knowledgeable folks
I've been on the Penix wagon all season,   just have a few concerns, mostly his injury history.   But he's my favorite of the bunch in terms of being a leader and a passer.  The kid just has an IT factor to him.
At some point I hope to figure him out, but right now Penix is an enigma to me. I agree with all the positives. He's got some IT factor, terrific accuracy and enough athleticism to maneuver in the pocket, but rarely runs. His patience in the pocket at Washington is going to translate well to the NFL.

But that release! Oh my. I can't believe no one's talking about this. At first I thought it was just that he's left handed, because I haven't seen a release like that since Tim Tebow. His footwork is even worse. Throws every ball as if he’s riding a horse. Legs apart, body out of alignment. It's nails on a chalkboard.

That said, the proof is in the pudding, right? If he delivers the ball on time and accurately, and man does he ever, what difference does it make how he releases it? And could he be even better if you improve it?
Now this is someone with a critical eye. I have no idea what you are talking about. All I saw from Penix were completions =)
Thanks for the insights

IndianaAs a true freshman in 2018 at Indiana, Penix played in three games, suffered a torn ACL, and was redshirted.[5] He completed 21 of 34 passes for 219 yards and a touchdown.[6] Named the starter entering the 2019season,[7][8][9] Penix, however, only played in six games due to injury, completing 110 of 160 passes for 1,394 yards, with ten touchdowns and four interceptions.[10] Penix returned to Indiana as the starter in 2020.[11][12][13] On November 30, he was ruled out for the season after suffering a torn ACL in a win against Maryland.[14]

WashingtonOn December 22, 2021, Penix transferred to the University of Washington,[15] and led the Huskies to an 11–2 record in 2022. Penix was the FBSleader in passing yards for the 2022 regular season, averaging 357 yards per game.[16] He also became the Washington Huskies all-time single-season passing leader during the Alamo Bowl with 4,641 passing yards. He finished eighth in the 2022 Heisman Trophy voting and earned AP Comeback Player of the Year.[17][18][19] On December 4, 2022, Penix announced on Twitter that he would return to the Huskies for the 2023 season.[20] Penix would lead the 2023 Huskies to the 2024 College Football Playoff National Championship.

Add another QB to the list. Ward is declaring when most thought he would stay. 6-3, 220. Could go day two.

lol, has similarities for sure. Heftier frame, more solid. Needs lots of work.

Dobbs, Tarkenton, Randle's chicken in the Favre jersey. Not a lot of hold strong in the pocket and throw 40 yards downfield in his game, but no doubt he's got escapability.

The Quarterbacks: Michael Penix Jr., Washington, and J.J. McCarthy, MichiganThis is a potential showcase game for both quarterbacks, Penix and McCarthy. Both players could be first-round picks if they have impressive performances in the national title game; both players could fall as far as day two if they crumble underneath the pressure. It’ll be exciting to watch either way.
Penix is a big-armed lefty coming off the best game of his career in the Huskies’ semifinal win against Texas. He threw for more than 400 yards and two scores and had people raving about his accuracy on deep throws. He has thrown 11 more passes of 20-plus air yards than any quarterback in college football; more than 21 percent of his pass attempts were throws of longer than 20 yards. The deep ball is his bread and butter. He has more than enough arm strength to put the ball wherever he wants downfield, and his ability to perfectly place throws to striding receivers on vertical routes is uncanny. USC’s Caleb Williams and UNC’s Drake Maye, the two best quarterback prospects in the 2024 class, are more consistently accurate at all three levels of the field, but Penix throws the sexiest vertical lead ball on go routes and post routes in the class.
Even better than his deep ball, however, is Penix’s ability to avoid sacks and turnovers. Per PFF, his turnover-worthy play rate in 2023 is tied for fourth lowest in the FBS. He’s had only one game this season with two or more turnover-worthy plays, and he had none in Washington’s playoff win over Texas. Penix, Oregon’s Bo Nix, and Heisman winner Jayden Daniels of LSU—all high-profile draft prospects in 2024—are the only quarterbacks in the FBS with turnover-worthy play rates below 2 percent in each of the past two seasons. And Penix and Nix are the only two Power Five quarterbacks who took sacks on fewer than 10 percent of their pressured dropbacks in 2022 and 2023.
McCarthy isn’t as mistake-free. He takes more sacks and more often puts the ball in harm’s way. He also has about 900 fewer college dropbacks and is three years younger than Penix. There’s still a chance McCarthy won’t declare for the 2024 NFL draft because of that youth and inexperience, and it’s not hard to imagine how much more his pocket management and decision-making could improve with another season at the college level.
Where McCarthy already has the edge over Penix is his down-to-down accuracy. Penix has McCarthy beat with his bucket drops on vertical throws, but McCarthy is simply more consistent. His game film reveals fewer missed throws; he also tied for the third-highest adjusted completion percentage among starters in the FBS this season, per PFF.

Brett Kollman told Mina Kimes today that the Vikings tried to trade away “the farm” for Anthony Richardson last year but couldn’t get a deal done. Wow  :o

He went on to speculate he could see us going after Daniels this year, potentially by trading with LAC if he’s still on the board.

“They’ll probably settle out at the top of the second tier,” an AFC general manager said of Penix and McCarthy. “Jayden Daniels — if he’s not in the first tier [with Williams and Maye], he’s at the top of the second tier. But I think most will have a first-round grade [on Daniels], so he’s in that first tier.
"Penix and McCarthy, I can see having different opinions with play style preferences and the medical and some other factors. There’s some stuff, some things not to like about both players. … Penix is rolling right now, definitely, and McCarthy could get some momentum [in the championship game]. What they do here, positive or negative, it’s the kind of moment that leaves an impression.”  - CBS Sports.com
