A Minnesota COVID case. An APS is someone with Antiphospholipid Syndrome (APS), the major cause of multiple miscarriages, thrombosis, young strokes and heart attacks.
From Emily, a #APS who has had #COVID19 My history with APS began three years ago when I found out I had a pulmonary embolism at 20 years old. I am not on immunosuppressants but I do have lung issues from that incident 3 years ago. I am now just on warfarin to manage it. My APS is generic from my fathers side. Recently I found out I had gotten COVID-19. The reason I went in to urgent care was because I was concerned I was having another PE. While I was there I told them about the shortness of breath I was having and fever. The gave me a CT scan and found I have pneumonia (which I get frequently) but no PE! They then said pneumonia is usually brought on by a virus. So they tested me for the flu and then COVID-19. Yesterday the Minnesota Department of Health called and told me I have COVID-19. I was shocked, my doctor was shocked. I wasn’t showing the classic symptoms of cough and sore throat. The symptoms I had were 103 fever, chills and sweats, shortness of breath and was tired and weak. I did have a high d-dimer test at 0.9. Before all this I had been on antibiotics and thought all of this was just a bad reaction to the antibiotics. So in truth I didn’t even notice that I actually had COVID-19. By the time I had gotten my result I had felt completely normal again. My symptoms lasted about three days and were very manageable. I do however, need to be in quarantine for 2 weeks from the last day of showing symptoms. I can answer questions if people are worried.
