Hmm not sure we should be giving up valuable O line depth for a slightly less shitty Laquon Treadwell.
Valuable O-line depth?  Jones never saw the field last year with a even worse O-line than this year.  At least Doctson is a slight improvement over Treadwell.  What could Jones offer?
Like I said, valuable O-line depth.  Besides, my grandmother is a slight improvement over Treadwell.  Whoop-de-doo.

Naaa.  I've seen her play.  Hands of stone and no vertical.  Gets mauled off the line.  But her chocolate chip cookies are a clubhouse favorite... Wink

in fairness ive heard he was our highest rated OL by pff this preseason..... for what ever thats worth.
It was also a really small sample size...  AND he was going against 2nd and 3rd stringers.  He should be playing well against those types of players.

I think we have talked enough about how unimportant actual game results are in relation to who they are against.  I am betting he didnt practice well. :p

Last year we needed a center until Elflein got back...Jones was the best of the worst at that time.

i do not like using a starting OG as our backup center....  why weaken 2 positions if one players goes down,  and we always hear about the chemistry aspect,  we now have 4 players affected instead of 3.   I would have preferred they look at the 4 running backs or 27 DTs for likely cuts to make the room for Docson.

I figured Watts would be released and moved to the practice squad first, to open the spot on the active roster for Doctson.

I certainly dont understand 6 DTs for 2 positions,  especially when we have used our DEs to kick inside on passing downs and leaving only 1 or none DTs on the field.  Mataafa will likely be one of those pass rush specialists,  but that is a lot of DTs to be cutting from the OL first.

This is where we are now? Bitching about every move the Vikings make?

Real football starts tomorrow, lol. Good thing. Let's keep it moving.
I don't know about EVERY move (although I suppose it might seem like it at times), but I'm not sold on this one.  Jones was good depth at OL.  If- somehow- he's still available when one of our interior OL gets hurt: great!  We can go sign him back to the team.  But if not, then who fills in if one of our interior OL gets hurt?  Samia isn't ready.  I don't think Dozier is either (even though I think he has more experience, I'm not sure he's any good).  And if Bradbury gets hurt, then we have to move Elf back to Center... and we'll get weaker at 2 positions.  At least with Jones on the team, we'd only get weaker at 1 position.  Unless, of course, they would STILL move Elf there anyway... in which case: yes, Jones was expendable.  But then we should have better depth at OG.

Yeah, I don't really get what some saw in Brett Jones.  He's a fringe roster guy...  we didn't trade for him last year because he was good.  We made the trade because Elflein wasn't healthy enough to play Week 1 and we were desperate.  The Giants (who had a worse offensive line than us) weren't going to keep him so he was available.

I'm surprised he actually made the initial 53 this year to be honest.

not much, if it is against the 3s.  Wink

AAAH,  but he got a shot to work with the 2s as well and looked pretty good,  he must have kicked ass in practice to get that opportunity.  B)
