Straight up dick move by Spielman.  Pay cut, pay cut and then cut.  Suppose he will want to bring him back week 2 so his pay isn't guaranteed.
I agree, but doesn't Coach Zimmer share some of the blame of BRob's release?  I would think the head coach decides what players are on the team or not.
yep,  if Zim would have banged the table I think he could over rule Rick,  but i also dont think that ZIm is the type to make a lot of noise where the public would hear,  so even if there was a rift here we will likely never hear about it from Zim or Rick.  and BRob cant talk until he is for sure on what his future holds.

thats what  I keep wondering about.... but that in itself would be yet another dick move.  if they wanted to do that they should have cut Sherels and Sendejo and really cleared some guaranteed cap space.
And as much as I want him back for one more run, if you were him, would you come back without the guarantee?
I honestly dont know if I would come back at all.  I think I would reach out to a division rival or one of the other NFC contenders and see if there is any interest.  considering he was calling plays on the field for the defense last year and was in camp until the end... his knowledge alone could be worth millions to the right team.  I am sure that some fans would get pissy if he did this,  but any loyalty he had for the franchise should be lost when they cut his pay 2 years running and then kept inferior players over him in what he had announced as his final season.  they basically took away his retirement party... or his chance to say goodbye to the fans on his terms.
Scary when you think of it that way.  And yes, Chad got his last season and honestly wasn't the player Brian still is.  We have no proven depth now and lost a general on the field.
I agree...
However you already had me at ''dick move''.

got to agree with Happy on this one,  I doubt that this was really a Rick thing as much as it was likely a Zim thing.  Zim or Patterson may hold a special spot in their hearts for these youngsters that they picked and they have molded into budding young studs,  while BRob was never "their" guy in terms of they inherited him when they got here.

Or maybe they just felt the younger guys were better at this point?  At some point these guys can’t play forever.  Maybe there was a noticeable decline in his ability as they went through training camp.

Look, I like Robison but these things happen.  This was definitely Zimmer’s evaluation since the defense is his baby.

I have no problem with the move. I would hardly call it a Dick Move. Older guys get cut all the time. It’s the way it is.
The Vikings have a ton of young talent on the DL, you dont release one for a feel good year for an older player.
I like Robison a lot, he’s a good guy. Doesn’t mean it wasn’t time to move on.

Some blame, but seems so out of character for Zimmer.  Rick is the business man and Zim is the coach.  I think Patterson liked Brian as well.  But who knows.

i wasnt at camp,  but I watched all of the preseason games and from what I saw there wasnt an upside, besides youth,  to the decision.  the position flexibility that BRob has as well as the experience should have made him a roster lock.  Bowers and Weatherly are nice players,  but they really dont show much that Brian hasnt shown for a decade, and he wont make the mistakes that they will.

I would certainly understand if Brian chose to look elsewhere. It is straight up bs what they did to him. It's wrong on so many levels. And to the fans, I wanted to see Brian ride off into the sunset with a Lombardi. After all his hard work and leadership, I can't think of anyone who deserves it more. He is the best example of a great Viking. They gave him the shaft.

Even if they didn't win it for him. At least let him leave on his own terms. He slashed his salary 2 strait years to accommodate them. He knew his was just a support role now. I really think this was a bad move and look. I don't know if they'll ever be able to explain why they couldn't honor what little was left of his salary after the slashing. I'm sure I'm just thinking too much with my heart. I don't see where someone like Roc is going to get enough carrys to warrant a spot and BRob couldn't get as many if not more snaps in the rotation. Oh well time to move on. This one stinks though.
