I agree. The main problem with just turning things over to a veteran like Rodgers is we still don't know what we have in McCarthy and you almost have to give him this upcoming year to find out because you have to make a decision on the 5th year option on his contract. This entire competitive rebuild crap has been built upon the idea of drafting a quarterback and building around him on a rookie contract. We are going into year three with McCarthy and have burned through almost half of that rookie deal advantage without knowing if he's any good or can stay healthy. It's a shitty situation to be in and O'Connell is really going to have to earn his money this offseason figuring this mess out

which is why you go into next year with him and whoever else is ok with being a "mentor" from the bench, even if they give the team a better chance at winning, in year 3 you have to find out what you've got and if you go to a veteran starter, then be ready to draft QB day 1, in April of 27 and start the process over.

Which is why I'm not for trading for a Mac Jones, who you'd almost have to start with the compensation it would take to acquire him (3rd rounder). I really think the best option is running it back with McCarthy as your starter and Wentz as the backup. If they want to take a shot on an Anthony Richardson type or someone of that ilk to push Brosmer, have at it, but they have to find out definitively on McCarthy for reasons already mentioned. If they do go out and bring in someone like Rodgers to start, that screams loud and clear that OConnell does not believe in McCarthy, wont risk his job on him, and they might as well see if they can move him at that point.

I think the only thing more important than "finding out what we've got in JJ" is JJ's actual development. If that means he spends next year on the bench working on himself, I have no problem with it.
Having a QB on a rookie deal is a nice advantage, but the last 6 teams to win a Super Bowl did it with a QB on a big contract. In fact, in the last 25 years, only 4 teams with a QB on a rookie deal won the Super Bowl. So it's nice if you can do it, but obviously not a requirement.

I don't think Rodgers or Tomlin retires this year unless they win the Super Bowl.
I know Aaron's deal is up but why wouldn't they both be back in Pittsburgh?

People have been writing Tomlin's epitaph for a decade. Unless he just wants a break, I don't know why he wouldn't be back. Rodgers is another story. I think he has wet dreams about running KOC's offense and it would require only three things for him to move on: 1, a desire to play another year, 2, a starting job offer and 3, the right money. I think the Vikings are prepared to offer him all three.
Every time I look at the QB options for the Vikings, I see reasons why they probably would not work. As much as I hate Rodgers—and I truly despise the man—I only see reasons why he makes perfect sense.
