Jefferson wants to know Vikings QB plan before signing an extension
#11
I'm not going to stress out about this. I am not so sure this is coming from JJ because so much bs is out there for clicks and likes during the off-season. Whatever will be will be

Does he have a choice?  He's under contract for 2024.  He can be franchised for 2025 and 2026 and franchising him will cost less long term than signing him.
Yeah, because forcing a guy to play in a situation that he doesn't want to always works out.  If he gets franchised, there's an extremely good chance he sits out and tells us to kick rocks

If he doesn't play,  he loses that year and is not a free agent.

If he wants to play hardball,  the team will have outs as they did with harvin and diggs.

So your answer is sign a subpar QB, draft another that might work out, and tell Jefferson to suck it if he doesn't like it? All the while flushing any value he has down the toilet be it on the team or value in return.  The very second he becomes malcontent, his value to us in a trade gets cut in half.

If this team is ready to move on from Kirk, so be it.  I can live with that.  But have a better plan than "shit QB and maybe".  Otherwise just trade JJ now, stockpile as many high picks as you can, and admit to your fanbase you have no intent on fielding a winning team next year.

As much as you all think this is about $$$  I have to believe not having a dud throw to you, year after year, is just as big a factor.  Like it or not, a Vikings future with JJ in it also has either Kirk or a Top 3 QB this year.

Also factor in next year's college QB crop is hot garbage compared to this year's. If they don't luck into a guy this year, this team is gonna be on the long road to nowhere.

I’m having trouble visualizing this scenario of JJ holding
out.  Can you point to a couple recent
examples of superstars who just decided to sit out for a season or two?  It might help jog my memory.

Yes, he's under contract in 2024, and like he's said, he'll play no matter who the QB is. That doesn't mean, however, he's going to be agreeable to staying long term if the Vikings put a stooge behind center.

Le'veon Bell sat out

Davante Adams refused to play on the franchise tag and was subsequently traded to the Raiders

Dez Bryant also refused and was resigned to a huge deal

While it doesn’t necessarily have to be Cousins, it doesn’t sound like JJ OS gonna stick around for a QB merry go round of doom.

I don’t think a “second-tier, maybe” draft pick and a lower-cost retread at QB is gonna cut it for JJ.
Well the good news is, JJ, like the rest of us will find out in March Smile

Well, a WR wanting to know who's going to be tossing the balls in the offense before signing an extension isn't unreasonable; that's going to define his stats and accomplishments as much as any other facet of the offense...more than most, in fact.

This was taken from his interview where he followed talking about Cousins to saying he put up a 1000 yard season with 4 different QBs.  He gave the interview during the lead up to  the Super Bowl.  It did not say he wouldn't play for us without Cousins.
