Jefferson wants to know Vikings QB plan before signing an extension

While it doesn’t necessarily have to be Cousins, it doesn’t sound like JJ OS gonna stick around for a QB merry go round of doom.

I don’t think a “second-tier, maybe” draft pick and a lower-cost retread at QB is gonna cut it for JJ.

Does he have a choice?  He's under contract for 2024.  He can be franchised for 2025 and 2026 and franchising him will cost less long term than signing him.

and this cant be repeated enough,  he can say what ever he wants,  I have heard some outlandish stuff claimed to come from him,  but in the end he is under contract and really doesnt have much of a say in the matter,  however if he truly wants to play hardball,  call Chicago and tell the the 1 and 10 for JJ,  then KAM can cross them off the list of teams he's traded with and have the complete nfc north set of collector mugs.

I think JJ is saying all the right things. He's not going to give the team an ultimatum. He and his agent are too smart for that. But there was a quote I thought was particularly interesting: "If it’s Kirk, perfect. If it’s whoever they choose, it’s not my decision."

Little doubt in my mind who the QB will be. Next year will be the last for Kwesi and KOC if they suck. I don't think there will be a QBOTF taken this year. They may take a late round flyer on a potential backup QB to replace Hall. They will sign Cousins and pay the price. They are an inexperienced GM and HC. Many of their gambles haven't paid off. There is a chance they could have a pretty good season by playing it safe and using draft capital to improve their defense.
I don't think they have much choice. At least that's the way I see it going at this point. JJ will get his money.

I'll bet he's secretly hoping for Sam Darnold.

Obviously, it's misdirection season and this could have been fabricated by any number of people that aren't JJ, but if it truly is how JJ feels, can you afford to resign him with the possibility of him becoming a malcontent and trying to force his way out if Cousins or another QB can't perform in a way that properly fills his stat sheet?   If this becomes a Russell Wilson situation where you have to trade the player, but also take on a ton of dead cap at the same time, it's practically a fireable offense.

Top 3 things I think JJ is  looking at.

1. Who is the QBOTF?  What's the plan?

2. JJ and his agent are gonna scrutinize the Wilfs'   and the way they've performed as owners  for the last 20 years. Are Wilfs capable of building  an organization that gets to and wins a Superbowl?

3. Does JJ see that the current FO, HC and staff are gonna build a competitive team that will get there.

Based on the questions around what  he's looking at, I don't see it as a certainty that JJ returns

IMO the 2021 season and how the Wilfs allowed it to play out with their hands off approach definitely muddied the water.

Reading between the lines, he’s just saying he wants Kirk back. He knows he’s under contract for awhile, he’s just taking the opportunity to let the brass know his opinion on the matter.

How many super stars have not taken the money and instead have chosen to get franchised and play out multiple years of injury risks?  The odds are much greater that he takes the money and forces his way out like Diggs than it is that he decides to opt out of a life changing amount of money and wait a couple years to get it via free agency.
