Regarding Kirk and 2024 I still don’t know what to think. For some reason I’m not hearing much talk about the fact he blew out his Achilles. He might miss half or even all of next season! We just don’t know and we probably won’t know when free agency starts. So do you guarantee Kirk a ton of money and blindly pray he heals up fast? A Jimmy G deal where you wait to pay him when he passes a physical? Or do you move on?
Kirk’s leg will decide if he’s back here or not. Not Dobbs or Mullens or Hall playing poorly.

Considering his timeline for full recovery is before the start of the season, it's pretty doomy to suggest he might miss another year. And remember, this is a QB, not a RB. He will be able participate in training camp at half speed. Hell, he can probably do that in a couple months.

I don’t know the answer to either question. What I’m saying is Kirk might not be a realistic option, even if KO really does want him back. The list of QBs to come back from a torn Achilles and play well is how long? Zero? And everyone wants the Vikings to bet a ton of guaranteed money on it happening? Easy for fans to make this leap of faith for KAM but if you’re him are you betting your career on it? My guess as of this morning is that he will not.
EDIT- The bright side to this is that maybe other team GMs get gunshy too and Kirk either gets stuck in limbo until he’s healthy or takes a major paycut. In those scenarios I see him back with us. But if he commands top dollar as an FA my guess is MIN moves on. JMO

Hall wont happen - not when they could still win the frigging division if they go on a roll. These guys/coaches are playing for post-season, not player development

Yes, that is the problem with a "competitive rebuild" -- the Vikes get to lose in the first round of the playoffs every year. I am at the point in my life where I want to see a SB victory and this was a perfect year to tank and improve draft position. Injured QB, injured superstar WR, etc. Getting to the playoffs with no hope of winning the SB is no longer my idea of a successful season unless it is building towards a SB run. This year is not. To me, competitive rebuild really is competitive mediocrity.
With the way things turned out with Dobbs, the injury to Hall really turned into an unfortunate thing as I think we still would have won at least 2 of those 4 games and we would know more about what we have in Hall. I would like to see Hall play as I liked the poise he showed in the limited time we saw him and think he could have the higher ceiling. I have not seen enough of both of them to know who gives us the best shot to win. Typically I would feel confident the coaching staff who sees them everyday knows that answer, but with KOC I am not so confident. Mullens looked good when he came in, but the bar was not set that high, anyone who took a snap and threw the ball in the general direction of where it needed to be was going to look good =) I hope Hall is the backup moving forward.
I like Hall and would like see how he does but Mullens gives them the best chance to win now. Winning is the main objective so starting Mullens seems like a no-brainer to me.
4 games left in the season, you're currently the 6th seed, and the question is who do you play at QB.

I'm assuming you mean sticking with the competitive rebuild after Cousins went down was the bad idea, and not that it was a bad idea from the outset. Because I think everyone would agree that if we'd stayed relatively healthy and not lost Cousins, JJ and half our line, the competitive rebuild would look pretty spectacular right now.

Knowing what we know about achilles injuries, Kirk is a realistic option. Going into 2024, the QB room would be in plenty good hands with an even iffy Cousins, a 1st round pick, and either Hall or Mullens. A lot better than going into the draft without a QB, which I can't see us doing.
I know you think we won't sign Cousins AND draft a QB in the 1st, but I think that's exactly what we'll do.
